Burton Nudelman Obituary

Nudelman, Burton Morris 83 Aug. 09, 1928 Dec. 25, 2011 Burton Morris Nudelman, 83, of Portland, passed away on Dec. 25. He was born to Sara Ann Herns and Edward Nudelman, Aug. 9, 1928 in Seattle. Burt was the very last person to graduate from Broadway High School in 1946 (a fact he was proud of) and received his Bachelors of Science in business and economics from the University of Washington in 1949. Burt also attended UCLA and taught statistics. He married Jackie Woron in 1957 in Stockton, Calif. where he lived until 1960 before moving to Portland. Burt managed Zukor's clothing stores in California and Oregon. Later, he owned and operated seven retail stores (J. Burton) in Oregon, Washington and California. He shared his retail passion by his involvement as President of the Lloyd Center Merchant's Association for three terms. In 1984, he sold his stores and opened his retail management consulting firm, where he was a renowned and much loved consultant, assisting many in growing their businesses. He was often quoted in the Oregonian and on television regarding the local retail climate. Burt was an active member of the Multnomah Athletic Club where he played racquet sports, swam, was involved in a walking group and served on several committees. Following his workouts, he would have breakfast with his closest friends prior to going to work. On Tuesday nights, you would often find him playing in poker tournaments. He was a feared card player as he often left the table a winner. He was also a sports enthusiast as a fan of the Washington Huskies football and basketball teams. Burt is survived by his wife, Jackie; and sons, Joel (Elizabeth) of Juneau, Alaska and Jim of Portland; two nieces; and a nephew. Burt was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Don. The family has requested that donations be made to the Robison Jewish Family Home. A memorial service will be held on Dec. 29 at 3:00 p.m. in the Temple Beth Israel Chapel where family and friends will have an opportunity to celebrate Burt's life.

I came to know Burt as I grew my computer support company, and he became a customer of mine via referral of a partner. He was immediately impressive and inspirational to me. He had a remarkably professional air of leadership, coupled with a disarming and approachable charisma that I will never forget. I was charmed, even tantalized, with the framed photos of articles depicting his business successes.

What will always equally impress me was his earnest friendliness. He was truly a sweet man. Burton was the nicest, most patient man of his stature that I ever met.

His family walks among the luckiest people on this earth, To them, I send my condolences, and to all that love him, my exultant joy at you too having known such a gentle, inspirational soul.

RIP, Burton Nudelman.

Love, Gawain Stern, et. al.

Sorry we lost a good friend. Burt was a fellow early bird at MAC. He was always bragging up his Huskies and making us all chuckle. RIP good buddy.

I was saddened to read of Burt's passing and know he will be missed by all who knew him. I had the pleasure of knowing and dealing with Burt when we were both at the Lloyd Center Shopping Center in the 60-70's. Burt was my sponsor at the Multnomah Athletic Club, we shared Trailblazer tickets, and had numerous lunches together over the years!
Jackie, Joel, and Jim, we send our sympathies!

Burt was a find, kind man, with a keen sense for all things retail, and a shrewd analyst of business issues--and always fun to be with.

Burt was a friend of mine at the MAC, and we shared many stores together in the locker room. I was involved in retail, so we talked about it, and the trends frequently, only interrupted with discussions of the Huskies and their fortunes. I will miss this fine man's face and personality at the MAC.

For Dear Jackie and Jimmy,

It was with deep sadness that I read of "Mr. Burt's" death this morning. He was my favorite BOSS of all time. I admired him very much and remember him well, even after all these almost 22 years since I moved back to the coast. I treasured my friendship with him, and I did so enjoy getting to know you both. I know you and your family will be sad for a long time, and so will I.
Sincerely, Karen Kilkenny Klosterman

For several years, I did many household jobs for Burt and Jackie. Burt was one of the gentlest and kindest persons I had the privilege to work with. My association with Burt and jackie was a gratifying time of my life, as well a a time of building a true friendship. He will be missed by many. Bill and Bev Krusee
