Dallas Carl Weaver

Weaver, Dallas Carl 72 Feb. 12, 1939 Sept. 17, 2011 Dallas Carl Weaver was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Milaca, Minn. He passed away Sept. 17, 2011, after a two-year battle with brain cancer. Dallas graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland in 1956. Shortly thereafter, he hired on with Pacific Northwest Bell and was transferred to Pendleton, where he attended Blue Mountain College. His career with the company spanned 38 years and he retired from US West Communications as a Manager in Transition Engineering. It's worthy of noting that he had 38 years of "Perfect Attendance," not missing one day of work due to illness. After residing in Pendleton, Dallas and family were transferred to Madras. There he became very involved in the small community and was elected President of the Jefferson County Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees). After spending three years in Central Oregon, the phone company transferred the family back to Portland. Dallas had interests in a variety of activities which almost always included his family. In the '70s and '80s the family's interest in horses grew and Dallas began teaching himself to team rope. Over the years he entered many roping jackpots in Oregon, Washington, Nevada and California, and with the determination he showed at everything he put his mind to, he went on to win numerous belt buckles, custom horse blankets and ultimately a saddle inscribed with "Champion." Along the way he made friends everywhere he went. Dallas thrived in the outdoors and almost always included someone from the family for trips when hunting birds, deer and elk in Eastern Oregon and fishing nearly all of the rivers in the state. During his time working in downtown Portland, he was a dedicated runner logging miles at the waterfront during his lunch hour. In 1994, at the age of 55, he ran in the Hood to Coast with his daughter and outpaced many younger runners. During that same time he also engaged in driving late model street stock race cars with his son, competing at Portland Speedway. Wisely leaving race car driving behind for more reasonable ventures, he took up golf in the early '90s. Along with his brother, Gary, Dallas competed in golf tournaments all over Oregon. Dallas joined Rock Creek Country Club in 2005. Once there he honed his game to a single digit handicap and became the Senior Men's Club President. His devotion to the game of golf went through to his wife, Diana; daughter, Cristi; and granddaughter, Carlie. In 2010 he was the un-official team "Grandpa" for Liberty High School Girl's Golf, having never missed a match in all her years of high school play. He was a dedicated attendee for all of his grandchildren's numerous sporting events regardless of the location and in spite of the cancer diagnosis and treatments. Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Doryce; brother, Gary Weaver; and sister, Cheryl Guy. He is survived by his wife, Diana; their children, Vicki Weaver of Seattle; Charles Weaver and his wife, Laura Weaver of Portland; Laura Townsend of Portland; and Cristi Jaksic and her partner, Tom Midrano of Portland; grandchildren, Natalie Weaver of Seattle and Corie Townsend, Carlie Townsend, Hailey Midrano, David Weaver, and Emma Weaver of Portland. A celebration of his life will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Rock Creek Country Club.
