John Grunewald Obituary

Grunewald, John Junior 85 July 22, 1927 Jan. 29, 2012 John was born in Boone, Iowa, to John Peter and Lydia (Rudisill) Grunewald. He was the youngest of four children and a twin to his sister June "Jinx." His family moved to Vanport, Ore., during WWII. John attended Roosevelt High School, but left early to join the U.S. Marine Corps where he proudly served for four years. Semper Fi! After his honorable discharge from the service, he married Helen Thomas. They had three children, Jeff (Chris), Jill (Chuck) and Kurt. Helen died in 1961. John married Ann Philp in 1963. They had two children, Dan and Jeannie. John retired from Metra Steel in 1992. He was a devoted fan of John Wayne and he, too, loved the West. John and Ann enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling around the country. He is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Jeff, Kurt, Dan and Jeannie; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many friends. His parents; three sisters; first wife, Helen; and their daughter, Jill, preceded him in death. A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes, followed by a reception.

I didn't get to see him very often but I did love him. Because of him I will never play Emily or Jono porker.. I am very thankful that I was able to play 9 holes of golf with him a few years ago and we had a great time. All my Grandfathers are now gone but Grandpa John I always knew that you still cared for me. I love you and will always miss you.

Sorry about John.
I just saw John's name in the paper it has been a long time sense I heard that name. I use to work with John and thought he was a great guy and fun to work with, he will be missed. I worked with him for over 20 years. Dennis Erickson
