Keith Guinn Obituary

Guinn, Keith A. 81 May 16, 1930 Oct. 26, 2011 Keith A. Guinn entered the world May 16, 1930, in Portland and died Oct. 26, 2011, at Providence Portland Medical Center of heart failure. Under a bullheaded exterior lay a kind and loving interior. He loved his family. His heart beat faster when his wife of 60 years, Edmo Ann Guinn, entered the room and saddened a little when she left. Keith's back straightened and chest puffed out when he heard the Star Spangled Banner and his eyes teared when he watched a romantic love story. Always an interested observer of politics, particularly what the process does to its participants, he was amused by politician's outrage when we lie to them and amazed at what the voters would tolerate. He had a lifelong love affair with cigars, gardening, Hawaii and baseball. His fondest years were spent moving around the U.S. with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955; finishing his education at Lewis & Clark College in 1957; traveling to Europe with his family; and spending retirement with his best friends. I often remember him speaking about death, how the world had changed from the pleasant All-American childhood he remembered, and how after he was gone, no one would give a damn. But Grandpa, we all miss you more than you could have ever imagined. Keith is survived by his wife, Edmo; children, Cathy (Jim), Karen (Erin) and David; and grandchildren, Bryan and Hilary. Also patiently hoping for his return are his beloved cat, Penny, and the squirrels that visited his window every afternoon. A service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Bateman Caroll Funeral Home, Gresham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to David's Harp.

Dear Edmo, Cathy, Karen, & David,

May your faith and endurance see you through this most difficult time. We will miss our wonderful neighbor, as Keith was so thoughtful to stop and greet us if we were in the yard. We've been in this neighborhood for such a long time, you are all a part of our lives. Our entire family send their condolences. Dick and I regret that we are not able to attend the service as we have a conflicting doctor appointment.

Our concern and love,

Dear Edmo, Cathy, Karen, and David, It wasn't that long ago, after many years, that we sat on your deck with Edmo, Keith, my sister Lexy, and my son Michael, who took the photo, and enjoyed a visit on a sunny afternoon. Of course it was a lot longer since Lexy and I were among the lucky kids growing up on Salmon Street, when all of you, including Keith, were a regular part of our lives. My mother never let us forget the time Keith came over, knocked on the door, and wanted to know if we could come out and play. He was just about the best neighbor dad around. He was one of us, a big kid... but also respected. He, along with all of you, will never, ever be forgotten. We are grateful to have known him, and blessed by the special part he played in our lives, and we wish you nothing but the best as you go forward. Take good care. Gracefully, David Blackburn

Dear Edmo, Cathy, Karen, and David—

There really are no words at a time like this. Please know that our hearts are hurting for you all, and that our thoughts and prayers are with you, too! May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I so love this picture of your dad—hIs smile will always be engrained in my memory. Keith always loved a party and having a houseful. Your family enjoyed so much together—your vacations to the tropics and summers spent in Yachats were some of the best! I cherish the deep friendship that developed with your family since meeting Cathy in high school, and remember fondly the times I got to spend time with all of your family over the years. And more recently, I am so thankful to have attended your parents 60th anniversary party; and the year before his 80th birthday party with my beloved mother--Mom had such a good time, as well as I.

Your beloved father was loved here on this earth and will not be forgotten—and you all made sure that he knew so. We will all miss him—may your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

My father also sends his condolences. Please know that my love and support will always be here for you.

—Love, Susan Treviso Roisom (and family)
