Napoleon Jelks Obituary

Jelks Sr., Napoleon 86 May 16, 1925 Feb. 27, 2012 Napoleon Jelks was born in Longstreet, La., to Gilmer and Lillie Jelks. When Napoleon was 16, he joined the U.S. Army. Napolean stayed state-side and on June 6, 1943, he received an Honorable Discharge. He moved to Oregon to worked at Kaiser Ship Yards. In 1953 Napoleon married his wife, LouBertha A. Nacosta. Later he became a member of LIUNA Local 296 as a hod carrier. Before retiring in 1997 he worked as a Longshoreman for ILWUAPMA local 40. Napoleon was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and loved to read the Bible. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, and a Master Builder, building a home for his family in Oregon and his parents in Louisiana from start to finish. He watched OPB, enjoyed fishing, loved Jazz and Gospel Music. Napoleon is survived by his son, Vista; daughter, Pamela; sisters, Eunice Wilson and Julia Jolly; three grandchildren, Vista Antoine, Lou Bertha Michela, and Napoleon Joseph and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Zaria. A service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2011, at Caldwells Funeral Home. The family will have a private Burial.
