Robert Wagner Obituary

Wagner, Robert J. 69 01/30/1942 03/09/2011 Bob was born in Portland to Rodney and Dorothy Wagner, the youngest of six children. He was raised in Milwaukie and attended Concord Elementary and Milwaukie and Clackamas High schools. He met the love of his life, Carol Madsen, in 1960 and they married in 1963. They had three children, Christopher, Patrick and Tracy. Bob was a quick-thinking, fast moving, lighthearted, eternal optimist! He had a great devotion for his family and a passion for his work; beginning at the Moore Co., moving on to Kelwin Distributing, then Manar Sales and finally as co-owner of Unlimited Sales Associates. He was a respected member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he and Carol were married and where his faith was deepened and nurtured. He served twice as the congregational president and in many other capacities as well. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed tennis and was a longtime member of West Hills Racquet Club. He carried out other pastimes with his usual gusto, like hedge "hacking" and "speed" golf. Bob loved keeping up with his four grandchildren in their sporting endeavors and was knowledgeable and an excellent coach. Cars were high on his list as long as they were fast, sharp, shiny and clean. Noted for his extraordinary wit and charm, Bob will be greatly missed by his loving family, co-workers and many friends. Preceded in death by his infant son, Patrick, and his parents, he is survived by his wife of 47 years; son, Chris (Lisa); daughter, Tracy (Walt); grandchildren, Lindsey, Patrick, Scott and Nicholas; siblings, Rod, Donna, Larry, Raylon and Mel; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, in Zion Lutheran Church, 1015 S.W. 18th Ave., Portland, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to Zion Lutheran Church for their special programs, one of which is for a senior health care and living center in the Goose Hollow neighborhood by the church that Bob spearheaded. Please make checks to Zion Lutheran Church and send to the address above, Attention: Robert J. Wagner Memorial Fund.

Dear Carol and family,
Bob was one of my favorite members when I was General Manager at West Hills Racquet & Fitness Club. He never failed to stop in and visit with me when he came to play his weekly match with the guys. He was especially kind to me when my husband Bobby died...he and Bobby had played doubles together on the 4.5 men's team...and they were friends, too. My heart goes out to you and your family...and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Love,
Danice Brown

Carol, Tracy & Chris: You all know as do I that the connections with Bob are in our hearts when it's flooded with love each time we think of him, through our thoughts in which we can communicate messages to him, and all the loving and fun memories we each have of him. I know that it comforts me.

Bob is no doubt enjoying his new surroundings, and has already put together a foursome for a golf match with heaven's most skilled players. If you happen to hear a repeated thumping sound, it's more than likely he has organized a tennis match too.

I will miss my brother terribly but I have wonderful memories of our growing up together, what a fantastic husband and father he was, and how generous he always was to me.

Thank you Bob for being my brother and I will see you again.

Love your sister.

Bob was a close friend of my parents when I was growing up. Lots of good times at West Hills racquet club! I will always remember "Mr. Wagner" having a great sense of humor and always smiling. My condolences to Carol and the Wagner family.

Dear Carol and family, We were so sorry to read of Bob's death in todays paper. Having just lost our son Marty (I think one of your children played sports for him?) in January we feel your burden especially deeply. Please understand our absence from the services tomorrow are just too much to handle just now. Our thoughts and prayers will indeed include you and yours during this awful time. Love to you all, Skip and Sue
