Robert Yearout Obituary

Yearout, Robert W. 83 02/22/1927 02/12/2011 Robert "Bob" Yearout was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Paul and Margaret Yearout. They moved to Portland where he attended Benson High School. In 1951, Bob married the love of his life, Violet Ham. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he attended Lewis & Clark College and earned his master's degree at Oregon College of Education. Bob was a well-loved teacher who taught fifth and sixth grades in the Portland Public School District, as well as in Newberg and on the island of Guam. He retired in 1985, but to this day is remembered fondly by many of his students. He was also a Boy Scout leader for many years. One of Bob's passions was singing, and he sang solos for special occasions in many churches in Portland, and as part of the choir for Bethany Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Violet; their children, Bruce (Kris), Janet Eakin (Dave), Bonnie Kirkland (Troy), Joanne Warner (Mark), and Marcia Lilliquist (Jeff); eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother, Paul Yearout. He was predeceased by his infant son, Michael; and sister, Anita Owings. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, in Bethany Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Skyline Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Yearout was my first scoutmaster and I rode to school with him and Bruce when I attended Benson high school. I remember him as a very caring person, and always willing to listen. I was sad to hear of his passing. May the love of God be with his family and friends at this most difficult time.

Bob was so awesome!!! He always treated me with respect even when I was a horrible snotty teenager. I loved having philosophical conversations with him. Even though we almost never agreed I so appreciated his intellect and conviction. I am truly blessed to have known him. Lori

Mr. Yearout was my 5th Grade teacher at Mt. Tabor school. He was a wonderful man and really was a "star" with the kids. He was the kind of person whom brought goodness and light to the world...I'm sure he had a great impact on many people without realizing it.
Rest in Peace Mr.Yearout. Thank you for being a great example to me.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your beloved Robert. You do not know me and perhaps Robert would not have remembered me if he were alive. However, I remember Robert as te big kid in the neighborhood.. We lived three houses away from him when he lived on N.E. Glisan between 2nd & 3rd Avenues. I remember when he would play with us even though he was much older then we were. He would give us rides on the running board of his car. I remember Anita and the older brother Paul. Those were wonderful years. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

When I heard the news that "Uncle Bob" had passed, Jeff and I were at the beach staying with a friend. I immediately remembered camping trips to the beach with the Dovers and the Yearouts. Those were some of my happiest moments growing up. We are family and spending time together was the best. I miss that we don't get together as often as we should but you are all in my heart and in my prayers during this difficult time. Take comfort that he is in a better place.
