Robert W. Yearout

Yearout, Robert W. 83 02/22/1927 02/12/2011 Robert "Bob" Yearout was born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Paul and Margaret Yearout. They moved to Portland where he attended Benson High School. In 1951, Bob married the love of his life, Violet Ham. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he attended Lewis & Clark College and earned his master's degree at Oregon College of Education. Bob was a well-loved teacher who taught fifth and sixth grades in the Portland Public School District, as well as in Newberg and on the island of Guam. He retired in 1985, but to this day is remembered fondly by many of his students. He was also a Boy Scout leader for many years. One of Bob's passions was singing, and he sang solos for special occasions in many churches in Portland, and as part of the choir for Bethany Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Violet; their children, Bruce (Kris), Janet Eakin (Dave), Bonnie Kirkland (Troy), Joanne Warner (Mark), and Marcia Lilliquist (Jeff); eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother, Paul Yearout. He was predeceased by his infant son, Michael; and sister, Anita Owings. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, in Bethany Presbyterian Church.
