Stan was a remarkable man, a good listener, and even better thinker. We were lucky to have him in our lives at First National Bank and then later First Interstate. I am so sorry to have missed his service but I wanted to take this opportunity to tell his family how much he meant to many of us who were fortunate enough to get to know him. When he retired, it was never the same.

Sadness isn't necessarily the right word for my reaction to reading about Stan's passing. It's more bittersweet, I guess, since I was staying with Stan when Lurah passed away so unexpectedly. Stan was devastated, and - even after the grieving - I know that he felt an emptiness that now, hopefully, is at rest.
What an amazing guy. He was a mentor, a teacher, and the kind of example that I never knew. Stan convinced me go to college, and his wide-ranging intelligence, wisdom & compassion deeply touched me and influenced me in ways that persist today.
I have yet to finish the "must reading" book list he gave me.
My thoughts are with his family (with whom I, belatedly, must get back in touch). Stan, if you're reading this, all I can say is, thank you. And I love you.

Debo and I send our thoughts and best wishes to all of the extended Sackett Clan today. It is, appropriately, drizzzly at the coast this morning...
We really enjoyed knowing Stan. He was always engaged and engaging - genuinely interested in what was going on around him and in all of us too - without presenting any generational obstacles.
I particularly remember a very entertaining, insightful discussion of John Irving's book "Son Of The Circus", which Stan and Jon and I had just read.
Stan will certainly be missed, but how fortunate we all are to have known him.

It was with sadness, yet fond remembrance that I read about Stan's passing. I first met Stan in 1968 when I first came to PSU to run the Population Research Center there. Stan, in his role as Economist for First National Bank, was one of the first from the professional community to welcome me to Portland. We became close colleagues and professional friends, highlighted by some fun and delightful ruminations over the efficacy of art vs. science on economic and demographic forecasts (yes, a couple of research geeks). Around 1970, I was invited to dinner at the Sackett home and have fondly remembered the warm and welcoming atmosphere that enveloped the entire family. Years later, Tim and I reconnected as professional associates and remain friends to this day. Stan, what a great gift of family and friendship from a great guy! Thank you.

Marilyn and I were saddened to read of Stan's passing. I was fortunate to work with Stan at First National in the late 1960's. Stan was dedicated, friendly, and always helpful in mentoring the newer employees in the department. Our sincere condolences.

Stan rented me the little house in the early 70s. He always had a pot of coffee on, and I was made to feel welcome at holidays. His home with Lurah and the kids was full of love and acceptance. He was a rare and wonderful man.

What a fine man to have had as a father and grandfather! I worked in the bank and looked to him for help so many times. He was so smart, funny, and did absolutely everything he could to find solutions to problems that we were having and always seemed to come up with just what we needed.
I know all of your family and all that knew him will miss him so much. May he rest in peace. He deserves the best.
