Thomas Harold Obituary

Harold, Thomas D. 69 Jan. 24, 1942 Jan. 08, 2012 Thomas D. Harold, 69, died peacefully in hospice care after battling with cancer first diagnosed mid-July 2011. Born to John R. and Justine M. Harold, Tom was raised in Portland, where he attended All Saints, St. Stephens and Grant H.S. Tommy was a good student and super athlete. He played football, ran track and boxed. He loved playing the guitar and was a great singer and entertainer. The girls loved him, all the coaches wanted him on their teams and he was charismatic and full of fun and love. Tommy joined the U.S. Army at 17.5 years old and was a paratrooper and member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served three years of active duty, one year in South Korea along the DMZ. Tom continued to skydive after the Army. Tom was proud of his work accomplishments. He was variously a Merchant Marine, Commercial X-Ray Tech and Industrial Electrician. As a Merchant Marine, he traveled the world extensively. Tommy is survived by his sons, Aric and Jeff; and grandchildren, Alec, Justin, Lauren, Madison and Easton; brother Jack, and his wife, Janet, nephews, Christopher and his sons, Dustin and Jason and Daniel Jaynes and his wife, Sherrie, and their sons, Joshua and Tyler; sister, Karen Ruiz and her husband, Gilberto and their sons, Peter and Andrea Miller and Peter's son, Jonathon Ruiz, Gilberto and Jessica Ruiz, and Paul and Wade Ruiz; brother, Greg and his sons, Geoffrey and Daniel, his fiancée, Kate Flack, and Daniel's son, Oscar; sister, Franci Fretheim and her partner, Ralph Krey, her children and their spouses, Shawn (Wray) and their children, Morgan and Jesse, Arne Kvinge and his children, Ana and Alek, Shain and his wife, Eang, and their children, Kelton, Kaeden and Kai, Casey Fretheim, and Brittany (Fretheim) Pierce and her husband, Greg; and brother J.P. Harold and his family. Not to mention the Irish Harold clan who first arrived in Portland in 1870. A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Willamette National Cemetery. Be at the Admin Building NO LATER THAN 2:30 p.m. and connect with the funeral guide in order to caravan to the site. A celebration of life will follow from 4 to 6 p.m. at McMenamins Kennedy School on N.E. 33rd Ave. Tommy, you're gone but never to be forgotten-As you often said, "Thomás, no más."
