Virginia Uhle Obituary

Uhle, Virginia Lucille 88 Nov. 24, 1923 Dec. 12, 2011 Virginia 'Ginnie' Uhle was the oldest daughter of Opal and Anna (Alley) Irwin, born Nov. 24, 1923 in Malvern, Iowa. She helped care for her siblings, left home at 13 and supported herself through high school and nursing school. She worked as a head ward nurse in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, where she met her future husband, Dr. Alvin O. Uhle, who she married in 1947. Married for 51 years, they raised their four children in Northeast Portland. Virginia returned to school and refreshed her nursing license. She worked at Calaroga Terrace, assisted with her husband's practice and volunteered with the Red Cross. She was active in Holiday Park Auxiliary, Riverside Country Club and Junior Golf and two bridge clubs. She loved animals and enjoyed flowers, birds, books, bridge and golf. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She was a beacon of love, caring, comfort and compassion to everyone that had the good fortune of crossing her path. She found joy in the success of her family. She was the first person you would call for consoling when you failed, because she always made you feel better. A kind and gentle lady, she was always courteous and thoughtful. Virginia is survived by her children, Kelly Myers and Bill Uhle, both of Portland; and Marsha Chapman and Dr. Paul Uhle, both of Virginia; sister, Louise Burmeister of Nebraska; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 15 at Rose City Park Methodist Church, 5830 NE Alameda St. Memorial donations may be made to the Oregon Humane Society.

Bill, Marsha, Paul, & Kelly,

The Saturday night phone calls with your mother, my sister and friend, will be sorely missed. We could talk as friends about anything- kids, politics, weather, and football especially those Oregon Ducks! Memories of those Saturday night chats will be with me for years to come.

Bill,

I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. Although I haven't seen her since we were in high school, I have always remembered her as a very elegant and gracious woman. May she rest in peace. Ironically, today was my step father's funeral.

Dear Kells, Bill, Marsha, and Paul,

We had such a wonderful Mother and Aunt. I will always
remember Aunt Gin as a kind, loving lady with an infectious
smile. She will be missed so much and we were better for
knowing her. All My Love, Patti Evans
