Walter Clyde Obituary

Clyde, Walter Bruce 77 07/18/1933 02/22/2011 Walter Clyde, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Feb. 22, 2011, surrounded by loved ones. Walt grew up primarily in Southeast Portland, where he attended Franklin High School and then Reed College before trans-ferring to Portland State University. Upon leaving school in 1956, he moved to Southern California and began his lifelong career in the paint industry at Rinshed-Mason Co. A year later he returned to Portland, where he worked as a paint chemist at General Paint, Glidden, Lilly and Rodda, among others, before retiring in 2004. He met Judy Eileen Dennis in September 1959 and married her two years later. The couple spent 17 years in their first home on Southeast Cooper Street before moving to Northeast Portland, where they raised their son. Walt enjoyed golf and fishing, had an abiding interest in archaeology and the history of the American West, and loved to travel. He had been active in various professional organizations during his career and served as president of the Pacific Northwest Society for Coatings Technology from 1979 to 1980. Those who knew Walt best remember him for his gentle humor and ability to see the positive side of any situation. A loving husband and father and a good friend, he shall be greatly missed. Walt is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Matt and his wife, Shina; sister, Arline; and numerous nieces and nephews. As per his wishes, no funeral will be held.

Dear Judy and Matt:

Walt was my uncle, my mentor, and my friend. I always knew I could count on Walt when I needed help or a man's perspective on an issue. I will miss his dry wit, his laughter, his gentle spirit, and his loving heart.

I have known Walt since he was 15 and realise that a large part of my memories as a child include him. He was loved and will always be in my heart.

Please know that my prayers are with you.

What a wonderful uncle. He will be truly missed. My first and favorite memory was watching him suffle cards. What a true gentleman and a kind soul.

Walt was one of the few men that I try to model my life after. I feel fortunate that he was a part of my life and that I had the opportunity to know him and love him. Thank you Walt for all the great pinochle games, love, support and memories.
