WILLIAM MALONEY Obituary

MALONEY, WILLIAM EDWARD "BILL", 85, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Friday, August 24, 2012. Born in Ossining, NY, Bill graduated from Ossining High School before joining the Navy at the age of 17. After serving in the Pacific during World War II, Bill settled with lifelong friends in Tampa, FL. He attended the University of Tampa, where he met his beloved wife of 60 years, Bette. After graduating, they married and had two beautiful daughters, Mary Ellen and Beth Anne.
After a successful career in the
finance business, Bill discovered a love for teaching. He taught at Lancaster Elementary School while he earned his Masters of Education at Rollins College. He later worked as a Curriculum Resource Teacher at Conway Elementary and as a Professor of Education at Valencia Community College before retiring in 1990. Bill enjoyed a true retirement filled with grandchildren and good friends. He engaged all whom he met with his affable manner, sense of humor and sparkling blue eyes. An amiable spirit, positive attitude and steadfast perseverance helped him conquer his 20 year battle with Melanoma and many of Central Florida's golf courses. Bill asked nothing of life but opportunity and spent much of his life devoted to creating opportunity for others. He bragged of the kindness and accomplishments of his daughters, but his greatest joy in life was found in his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bud and Sarah. He relished in their achievements in academics, sports and dance.
Despite his illness in his later years, he realized his lifelong goals of each of his children and grandchildren graduating from college and celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary with the love of his life. Bill is survived by his wife,
Elizabeth Hayes Maloney; his daughters, Mary Maloney
Brandenburg and Beth Maloney Watson; his son-in-law, James
Edward Brandenburg; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Louise Watson, William Hayes "Bud"
Brandenburg and Sarah Anne
Watson; other family members include his niece Julie Hayes Scally and her husband Kevin Scally of Towson, MD; his nephew, Bill
Tatgenhorst of Tampa, FL and his nieces and nephews, Deedee
Utterback Pfeiffer, Wayne
Utterback, John Utterback, Mary Utterback Fuller, Patricia Utterback Weiland, Nancy Utterback, Teresa Utterback and Barbara Utterback Stenbroten and their families; he is also survived by his beloved Tibetan Terrier, Willie. The Maloney family would like to thank Shonda
Berry, Dr. Bob Faber, Dr. Nick
Bagnoli and all the staff at Orlando Regional Medical Center and Lucerne Pavilion for their compassion and care. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 29 at 10 in the morning Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Orlando. Donations may be made in Bill's honor to the University of Tampa Annual Fund, 401 West Kennedy Blvd., Box H, Tampa, FL 33606.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bill. He was a wonderful man who touched the lives of many people. I still remember when I met him during my internship at Conway Elementary in 1986. He was always kind and thoughtful. He treated everyone with respect and that is why he was so well liked and respected by everyone that met him. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Take care and know that you are loved very much!

Gone from our sight
Gone from our touch,
But never our hearts
and never our memories.
Those we love never go away
for we will see them another day.

Dear Bette, We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Bill was such a wonderful person. We spent many years together at Conway Elementary. He gave me
a Christmas ornament that was a red bird which represented good luck. I have used it every year since.
. He was a dear friend and was always there when we needed him in the
guidance department.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. I recall having a nice conversation with Bill the last time we had an opportunity to visit. No one enjoyed a good scotch like Bill. In fact, he taught me a thing or two about the art of scotch. Bill was a great conversationalist with a sharp sense of humor. I always knew a good joke was coming when ever I saw him. I always respected Bill. He was intelligent and his insight into politics was something I appreciated. I know this has to be a great loss for all of you. Find comfort in the fact that you are in the thoughts of so many friends and family members. You will draw strength from your faith and the wonderful memories you will carry with you always. Peace be with you!
