Hey Ash,

We can't believe that it has been this long. Three days ago it was your birthday and we all missed you. On that day you would have turned 18. Many of us including myself went to visit you because you are still in our memories. Normally I go and I'm completely fine but this time I broke down and I still don't know why. I love you Smashleyy and you will always be carried in my heart. You were the best friend any person could ever want and I couldn't have asked for more from you. I was thinking of the first time I saw you as a baby you were about 10 months old thats when I inherited you as a niece when I started with your uncle tito I thought you were one of the cutest babies I had ever seen and my god so happy everyone just loved you but not more then your mom. The loved she showered on you as a baby was amazing. As you grew up nothing changed you were still her baby I always admired the relationship the two of you shared. My little Ashley, your shining smile brought joy to so many people. I remember the first time I saw you in church on Thanksgiving Day 8 years ago, sitting across the isle from me wiping a tear from your mother's eyes. You looked so tender and angelic. Your love for her was amazing, truly a love sent to her from God. Your death is so pre-mature and full of questions that will never be answered. However, I believe that you served a purpose here on earth during your short stay. My daughter and I were blessed by having you in our lives at a time when it was very hard to laugh, yet some how you knew how to bring smiles to our faces. I am honored and humbled by my experience of knowing you. There were so many things you wanted in life, so many things you were working hard at attaining. There was so much that went on inside your heart and soul, so many feelings and longings that were private to many, but you trusted me enough to share a glimpse of another side of yourself. Ashley – I look at your seat and you are not there – and I feel the pain that one only feels with great loss. I miss you!! I want you to come into 7th period English and say “Hi –Ms. Bartlett – Oh! I mean Ms. Okun – Whatever!” beaming your sarcastic smile. Your smile lit up every room it entered. You always made me laugh at the end of each long Sophomore day. You made me snicker when you would yell “AAAGH! Ms. Okun – I can’t get a 6 on this Holt Writing Program.” But you kept on persevering until you did get that perfect writing score. Your unusual interpretations of poetry were absolutely “out of the box” which was exactly what I wanted. You challenged both yourself and others, including me, to question and prove the truth of their knowledge. The one lesson I want to teach all of my students is to question and challenge the knowledge they are being taught. I want them to seek and find their own “truth.” You came into my class with the inherent perception that to gain real knowledge, we must challenge and prove everything taught to us. I am without my words when I try to explain how much I and my other “babies,” I mean “students” miss you. We cry and hug and weep and talk about you –our beautiful witty Ashley. I dont know how to continue on with my life without you. You always put a smile on my face, and you were always there for me when i needed you. I cant help but think that my best friend that i have known since 3rd grade is no longer here. I'm still reflecting on Rick's eulogy last night. Ashley was such a remarkable child - more than I even realized! Rick, when you said all the "right ingredients" - that was Ashley. My sympathy goes out to Ashley Ramnauth's Family. I was reading the news and came across this tragedy. I know I don't know the family or ever met Ashley I want you to know God has allowed me to feel the compassion that I am having. My heart grieves to see a beautiful young lady loose her life at a young age. You know the God we serve is an awesome God and his word says… He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound]. Isaiah 40: 29 . I send my condolences and blessings to your family. It's so amazing how much you can love someone so much. She was such an amazing child. She was my little baby. She was such a goof ball. It's so quite in this house. There's so much I want to say about my little baby, but it would take a few pages. "Ash I love you sooooo much & it hurts so much to know I will never see that big o smile ever again. This morning I laid on your bed & it felt so good. I felt your presence. The one thing that brings me peace is that, God is an awesome God. He loves you so much & I know you are with him talking his ear off. Please watch over us. I'm going to miss taking you to school. "ASH I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, MISS YOU & WILL NEVER FORGET YOU". She always laughed at my jokes and put a smile on my face. I'm glad to have known her and the criminal justice academy won't be the same without her.
