Matthew Sylvester Obituary
Matthew Sylvester, of North Palm Beach, died at 7:23 p.m. Thursday, according to spokeswoman Teri Barbera. He had been listed in critical condition at St. Mary's Medical Center since the shooting.
Sylvester was shot in the head with a .22 caliber rifle at a home in Cabana Colony near Palm Beach Gardens on Tuesday morning.
Four young men, aged 16-19, were at the home when two apparently were inspecting a rifle. The rifle accidentally discharged, Barbera said at the time.
Sylvester did not live at the house and no parent was in the home at the time of the shooting.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Capt. Don DeLucia said the teen was in the garage when he was shot at around 9:30 a.m. at the home on the 3000 block of Bahama Road.
Sylvester's friends have shared their sympathies in a public event page on Facebook, where the first comment on his passing was posted at about 8 p.m.

Candles die as well. They're beautiful when they burn but eventually they die. With such an amazing candle it's hard to forget about. It's hard to stop loving such a extraordinary being like you. This may make no sense to others but it will make sense to you and to me.

when i was in third grade we used to hang at masons house and you always made sure i was included in scateboarding, basketball etc... point is you were such a great guy and you always made me laugh ..

I will always remember Matt as a beautiful, sweet, caring, young man with an old soul. May God's love surround Matt's family and friends with a sense of peace and calm through this most difficult time. Cry, laugh, weep, smile and mourn........and always remember that Matt is in Heaven waiting for each of you. Until you see him again you can always see him fishing at the pier by just closing your eyes and breathing deeply. My heart breaks for each of you left behind. Unfortunately, like you I had to endure the loss of my child and promise you that you will survive even when you don't know how or if you even want to. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I never got the chance to know better Matt - we had couple talks on the pier, while fishing and he left me always with a good impression about him.
Its sad to know that he is gone. In my memory he'll always gonna be the kid with that big smile.

Matt, you were Andrew's best friend here in Florida. We spent such good times fishing, skim boarding, water parks and just hanging out at my place. You were an awesome kid. We weren't super close friends, but we knew of each other, and I don't think I'll ever forget him. He had the cutest smile I had ever seen. It just lit up his whole face. I'm sad we didn't get to spend more time together. I heard he was an amazing kid. I'll miss you Matt. RIP. <3

You were one hell of a guy. Even if we had our differences at the good 'ol pier. You were a ton of fun to be around.
You were the perfect example of a Florida boy. Sunburnt, quick-witted, and a big mouth. You got to love it!
I'm never gonna forget the contagious smile, and hilarious sense of humor you had. Whether it was trying to pop a baloon someone was floating out. Catching nurse sharks. Or gaffing bonita while you were fighting another one.

Matt was a wonderful kid. He and my son were good friends and fished together all the time at the Juno Beach Pier. It will never be the same. He was at our house all the time. His face lit up when he smiled and he had the greatest laugh. He was always polite and friendly and even if he and Nick were just stopping by in a hurry to get a fishing pole or tackle he always made sure he said hello. Much sympathy to his family and all of his friends as we help each other get through this huge loss. Bless you Matt you will be remembered for the great person that you were and through all the fishing stories that will continue long after you have left us.

Matt you were one of my closest guys friends. we had our good and our bad times but mostly good. From chilling in Juno park to cracking jokes on the bus. I will never forget you! God must have a plan for you because he took you away from us toooo soon. If i could have one more day to chill with you we would go on the go-cart, roam around juno park, and just spend the day like we used to. I remember every time something happened to your bike you would be over my house getting it fixed. I miss those times! <3 you will forevr be in my heart and my memory! <3 RIP <3
