Solomon Lovell Jr.

Solomon W. Lovell Jr. CHESAPEAKE - Solomon W. Lovell Jr., 84, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011. Born in Conway, S.C., he was the son of the late Annie Lovell and Solomon W. Lovell and was predeceased by his wife of 67 years Dorothy W. Lovell. Solomon was retired from the Coca-Cola Company after 40 years of service. He was a 32nd degree mason, member of the Churchland Masonic Lodge No. 276, Khedive Temple and the Portsmouth Scottish Rite. Solomon was a kind man who always tried to help others in need. During his life he enjoyed boating, fishing and tending his gardens each year. He was always quick with a joke and a smile and will surely be missed by all who knew him. Solomon is survived by his sister, Corine Rogers of Portsmouth; three brothers, James, Elmer and Kenny Lovell of North Carolina; five children and their spouses: Jerry and Mickey Lovell of Portsmouth, Donnie and Virginia Lovell, Steve and Lou Lovell and Larry and Patty Lovell, all of Suffolk, and Marlene Lovell Meehan and Kevin Meehan of Highland, Md. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at noon Thursday in Loving Funeral Home and interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Memorials may be made in his honor to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
