ILLIG JEANNE RIDDLE ASHBROOK
Of Green Tree, died on November 6, 2010 of complications from Alzheimers disease. Born on April 30, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Garwood and Theodora Hoerle Ashbrook. She was the beloved wife of George Ludwig Illig Jr.; dear mother of Andrea Jeanne Illig of Maryland's Eastern Shore, George Richard Illig and wife Marilyn Hersh of San Francisco and the late Thomas Arthur Illig. She was the grandmother of Daniel Louis Illig of San Francisco; and the sister of Arthur Garwood Ashbrook Jr. and wife Cecilia Ashbrook of Washington D.C. and John Roland Ashbrook of Media, PA. Jeanne grew up in Ingram, PA and graduated from Crafton High School in 1939, and from Grace Martin Secretarial School in 1940. She was employed by U.S. Steel Corporation, prior to her marriage to George on January 8, 1944. She raised her family in Green Tree and cared for her parents and great-aunt in their later years. She was active in the local P.T.A., the Green Tree Women's Civic Club, Green Tree Garden Club and at Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church. Jeanne also volunteered with Peace Links, Common Cause, The Pittsburgh Ballet, Bethlehem Haven, Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, Meals on Wheels, Allegheny and St. Clair Hospitals and took a keen interest in political events. She loved to read and sing and to attend movies, plays, concerts, operas and dance performances with her husband, children and friends. This year Jeanne and George celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Memorial donations may be made to Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church 1148 Greentree Rd. Pgh., PA 15220 or The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy 800 Waterfront Dr. Pgh., PA 15222. A memorial service followed by a luncheon will be held Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church in Green Tree.
