Hugh Muller Obituary

Hugh Muller

1928-2013

Hugh Muller was born on Friday, March 13, 1928, in Van Nuys California, the second of four brothers. Hugh grew up in Southern California and attended UCLA, where he earned his BS in Chemistry while courting his future wife, Genevieve, whom he met at a party for college vocal groups hosted by Roger Wagner.Hugh and Genevieve were married in her hometown of Reedley, California, in September of 1951, and in 1958 moved to Rolling Hills Estates, where they lived for 55 years, blending their voices as members of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church choir for nearly 50 years, during which time Hugh also served as a ruling Elder.

After working as a chemist for Northrop and Turco, Hugh and two co-workers founded Adcoat Inc. Beginning with the manufacture of "Shoe Goo", Hugh and Adcoat went on to set the industry standard for the chemical milling process. Hugh called himself a "citizen activist" and lived the part. He was appointed and served for seven years on the Rolling Hills Estates Planning Commission, followed by election to the RHE City Council, where he was elected to three terms as Mayor by his fellow councilmembers. Other organizations which benefited from his support were The Norris Theatre, Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, the advisory board of Help the Homeless Help Themselves, Hospice Foundation, and Torrance Memorial Hospital.

In 1996, Hugh and Genevieve were named "Citizens of the Year" by the local Chamber of Commerce. Their selection as "Sweethearts" of the Norris Theatre's Valentine Ball followed in 1998. Hugh passed away peacefully on October 8 in Medford, Oregon, surrounded by family members. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; son, Mark; grandsons, Mark Jr. and Andrew; daughter, Felicia Hart; granddaughters, Genevieve and Hannah; and brother, Jim Muller and his family.

A celebration of Hugh's life will be held at the Norris Pavilion on Sunday, November 17, at 1 pm. The Pavilion is located at 501 Indian Peak Road, Rolling Hills Estates. (phone 310 544-0403). In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Norris Theatre, Hospice Foundation of America, or St Luke's Presbyterian Church. Dear Muller Family,
Though I never met your dear Hugh Muller, your commentary
makes me wish I had known him. The sweet smile and gentle countenance on his face in the photo, combined with the account of his background including Saint Luke's Presbyterian
Church bespeaks a man of gracious character and humility.

May the Lord minister to you the grace and comfort which comes only from Him. Having lost my treasured husband last year, I understand the pain you experience at this time.
I believe that they have both just gone on ahead to be with the
Heavenly Father Who paid for their salvation. We shall see them again in His time. May you be blessed.

Dear Muller Family,
Though I never met your beloved Hugh Muller, Your commentary about him and his life makes me wish I had

The sweet smile and gentle countenance on his face in the photo, combined with the background account of his life, including St Luke's Presbyterian Church paints a picture of a precious child of God who has just gone on ahead of you to spend time with his Heavenly Father Who paid the price for his salvation. I understand because, I lost my treasured husband last year. He, too, has gone on ahead to be with the Father. May God minister comfort to you with the grace which comes only from Him. So sorry to hear of Hugh's passing. I remember enjoying hearing him sing in church on Sunday mornings. He was always cheerful, with mischief in his eyes. Keeping his family in my prayers and will be there on the 17 th.
