Just got back from a trip. Just found out.
My Brother and I worked for This "Good Man" at His Home when we were in high school. I have always respected His Sophistication. I can state for a fact that is the reason I was employed at NW/NS for forty-one years. This was a "Real Leader". GOD BLESS-GOD SPEED His Family.

Doreen, Marga and I are on a driving trip west and heard the news about Jack on our way to Mt. Rushmore. We are sorry that we will be unable to attend the Memorial service. Jack was very special for both Marga and me and he will be surely missed. Our deepest sympathy to you and family. Bill and Marga Bales

John,
My deepest sympathies to you and your family at this difficult time. Your father sounded like a remarkable man and Roanoke is all the better because of his leadership.

Doreen and John Jr.
My father had the privilege of working for Mr. Fishwick and I too, following suit had the honor to work for him, having met him at American University in Washing DC in Jan. 1965. We met on numerous occasions during my almost 30 years of service and just to add to all the other fine accolades people are saying about Jack Fishwick; I would just like to add if I may, that from the first day I met him, I knew, and was correct, Mr. Fishwick was truly a man with a vision.

It was not only my pleasure to know him but you to Doreen,God Bless all of you.

Sincerely,

Joe N. Sailor Jr.

I will miss Mr. Fishwick. He once asked me my name when we were working in the old N&W General Office Building. He never asked again always saying hello Bob when we passed even here at the NS building. Our conversations were brief but always meaningful.

Doreen,my heart goes out to you and your family for the loss of a very great man.
During my time at the Hotel Roanoke he gave me some great and sound advice that I fondly remember. And he treated Hotel Roanoke employees just as if they were the titians of industry that he he did deal with.
Our deepest sympathies,

Wow what an amazing man that lived an amazing life. This is the link where his son got his hard work ethic, and his drive to help people at all levels. Continue to carry on the legacy John.

You definitely left the hotel with the best package of all of us and you both were truly blessed. Sami's and my sincere condolences go out to you and the family as we are going through the same feelings having just lost my dad on the 31st. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It has been a pleasure to call John, Jr. one of my closest and dearest friends, and the passing of Mr. Fishwick is just as big a blow to me as to the family. My sincere condolences go out to the entire family, and I will cherish the time spent with Mr. Fishwick at John Jr's 50th birthday celebration.

Although I worked for Norfolk Southern Railway my memories of Mr. Fishwick were as a waiter in the Regency Room of the Hotel Roanoke. Mr. Fishwick always treated everyone with dignity and respect and was indeed a very humble man. I'm proud to have met him and got to know his son John Fishwick, Jr.
May He Rest In Peace!

I had the privilege of knowing Mr. & Mrs. Fishwick through my employment as concierge of the condominium where they resided. Both were always kind and thoughtful, and I was saddened to learn of Mr. Fishwick's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Fishwick and the rest of his family.

My mother and Jack grew up on the same street, Dale Avenue. They were the same age and Jack spent lots of time in our family home. My grandmother told me many stories of her friendship with Jack's parents. She also remembered how funny and what a prankster he was. We have lost a truly 'cool' but brilliant businessman and Roanoke citizen.

Doreen,

I am so glad that I had the opportunity to say "hello" a few weeks ago when you and Jack were having dinner in the Grill with Jackie.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the privilage of doing John's hair for the past 25 years. He always had ideas and was willing to try new things with his hair. I especially remember a time when he wanted to let his hair grow out long enough for a ponytail. We achieved that goal. I will always be impressed by his upbeat stature. Doreen, you have my deepest sympathies and love.

Mr. Fishwick's vision and hard work made Center in the Square a reality. Thank you Mr. Fishwick for creating a place where children and adults can discover art, history, science, theatre and opera! We will miss you.

Mr. Fishwick was my daughter's father-in-law, and thus our relationship was couched in those terms. We always had pleasant and profitable conversations about many subjects--politics, economics and religion, etc. He read widely and was always well-informed with opinions and convictions based on accurate information. His family really did live out "The American Dream" and I am grateful to call him friend.

Jack Fishwick was a strong leader who set high expectations in his business and personal life. I always thought of him as a man of integrity who was focused on achieving results but also cared about doing what was right to achieve those results. My sympathy to his wife, Doreen, and members of his family. It was a privilege to get to know them.

Knew Jack not through NW/NS but through the arts, with Blair, such wonderful memories. He was incredibly intelligent, generous and kind. A rare gentleman who will be missed. Deepest sympathy to the family.
