Maryann Slettehaugh Obituary

Maryann Slettehaugh died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, in an accident with a skateboarder while she was on her daily walk. She was 83 years old.

Lucille Edgren, who knew Slettehaugh for more than 20 years, said Slettehaugh lived in Capitola for decades with her husband, George. Slettehaugh often attended Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Community church in Capitola.

"She was a very nice lady. She was a little, beautiful woman," Edgren said.

To the Slettahaugh Family, You may not read this since it has been almost 3 years since your mom's death but I feel like I need to write this regardless. I worked with your mom at Bank of America in Sun Valley for over 3 years. I have thought about your mom so many times over the years and I thought I would look for her on the internet. I was so sad to see the report about her accident. Your parents actually gave me some furniture before you moved up to Capitola. Your mom and I worked in the NCR machines together so we became very close. She was the same age as my mom so I related to her like my mom. I would ask her advice on so many things. She was the sweetest kindest lady and I am so sad about what happened to her. Love to all of you!!! Sue Johnson [email protected]

Though I never spoke with Maryann, I do remember seeing her at St Joseph's. To just step out for a walk and then lose your life is just so
terribly sad. May the angels walk with you to Heaven.

There's a peace and security that is beyond words in knowing that death no longer has any hold over you. It is, in reality, a non-issue because of Jesus.

My sympathies Nancy, trust Him who holds our future. We hold you up in prayer. Much love, Bill Siemon - Capitola Community Church

My family has been coming to Capitola for vacation for over 100 years. In the 80's we met George and Maryann in the bakery. I was in my 20's. Every morning we would talk to them. When we walked to the mall on 41st Ave, we would pass by their house and talk. The children in our family couldn't pronounce their last name, so they called them The Slautters. I really will miss Maryann. We will be there again this Saturday to start our vacation. but it won't be the same.
