CECIL CARPENTER Obituary

CARPENTER, CECIL GLEN Cecil "Glen" Carpenter, 57, lost his brave fight against cancer on July 31, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Sandra, and the devoted father to Kristen and Katie. In his 25 years of marriage, he and Sandra, along with other family members, enjoyed renovating properties and working on projects in their own home. Glen loved woodworking, entertaining, helping others, and any time with family. He easily made friends and was a mentor and father figure for many. He and his family were proud of his work with the California Highway Patrol for the last 10 years. Glen fought a courageous battle against cancer, and he recently succeeded in his goal of walking his eldest daughter down the aisle. He and Sandy would like to thank all who have helped with prayers and deeds over the course of his illness to allow that special day to happen. He will be greatly missed. Private graveside service. Memorial gathering Sunday, August 21st.

My brother Tony Flores joined you in heaven this last December. He didn't let us know he was still battling cancer. Fond memories of him and Glenn.

Sandy and family,

I recently was up in the North Coastal area of San Diego and happily recall several trips Glen and I took in '73 camping in San Onofre. I recall he had a small truck and recall loading it up with tent, gear and plenty of beer. Several great camping trips! With all my beach days then, it was a real treat to discover the area. I have since camped out there several times, moving from a tent to a motor home. I recall Glen's love for that area. Take Care!

To Glen's family, my thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort. Glen was a special person and dear friend in my last years at Crawford, he brough such joy and sincerity to those days. Great memories that touch the heart. May those memories that we all share of his kindness and depth touch us all.

How very sad I was to learn of Glen's passing. He had been a special friend to me when I needed one. I had known him off and on from grade school thru high school. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Glen was my first friend at Frost Hardwood and the smiling face I could always count on to be there until he left for the CHP. I can't believe he's gone. So sad.

before glen started working for the chp, i had the pleasure of working with him for nearly 20 years at frost hardwood lumber. before he left for the chp, he trained me on taking over the position he held there as dispatcher. he was very good at his job... whether it was as a hardwood order filler in the 80's, or as dispatcher in the 90's. glen played a big part in helping me introduce myself to a new girl that started working at the lumber yard by somehow coaxing her e-mail address out of her under the guise of sending her something funny, when he really ended up giving it to me instead. lol. i ended up marrying that girl and had some of the best years of my life. the best being the birth of my daughter sydney. thank you glen for you're sense of humor and helping out a shy guy. i enjoyed all the years we worked together. I will never forget you're smiling face or hearty laugh. I will sign this by the nickname that you knew me by, and continued to call me by for as long we as have known each other.

My sympathies to Glen's family. It has been many years since I've seen Glen. Memories are never distant. They are only moments away from here to any pleasant thoughts I have of a really wonderful person I knew as Glen. I have many wonderful memories and I'm happy for those times our paths crossed. God Bless.

Sad to hear of Glen's passing and the loss his family and friends are experiencing. I only knew Glen at school, but remember that he was just as nice as that smiling senior year Centaur pictures shows. Praying with and for the family...

Thinking of Glen today. What great memories during the summers of 70 and 71. Driving to South Mission in the back of John Velguth's yellow pickup. The great conversations when we drove together to school our senior year.
Sandy, as I said in our conversation several days ago....my heart is broken for you and his wonderful children. What a wonderful person Glen was.
Rest in peace my friend

Glen attended the Grossmont College T'ai Chi Ch'uan Saturday morning class for many years, and as an accomplished practitioner began to lead and assist with teaching new students. He expressed a wonderful sense of calmness, peace and balance of movement. Naturally warm and friendly, his presence is missed by the many students he influenced. Our condolences to his family.

I first met Glen in junior high. We passed a number of teen landmarks- first road trip in his first car- a 56 Chevy wagon with an 8 track and only one tape- The Beatles Abbey Road.
He was a great friend and good man then. I count knowing him as one of life's blessings, and such knowledge means that I also understand the loss of his loved ones.
May having known him serve as some solace to them in this time, for many pass through life without the benefit of having such a loved one.

I remember Glen from high school. He transcended any "clique" and was a friend to all even back then. I recall him talking about his woodworking at one of the reunions. Sandy, I didn't know him well, but what I knew of him, he was a "real" person -- "what you see is what you get" and I so loved and appreciated that about Glen. (I DO remember laughing when he first told me his first name was "Cecil" -- that was in Jr. High). Only knew him at school -- and that's the picture I have in my mind of our friend, Glan. Great Guy! Prayers for you and your family. Glen was taken WAY too soon and my heart goes out to you. If you would like to meet some of his old friends, contact me (I'm assuming you can get my e-mail from this posting site). I'm sure some of our friends could tell you "long-ago" stories that might make you smile or even laugh.

Thinking of your entire family.

What a shock! I first met Glen when he was working at Frost Hardwood. I was building a Model A woody and he helped me buy the maple wood for the car. I then worked with him at the C H P . I respected and admired him. I was happy to call him my friend. When I retired , I gave him my two way radios. He will be missed. Paul Dunne. Lakeside CA

My deepest condolences to Sandy, the girls & the rest of the family. I worked with Glen for many years at the CHP and he was one of the most professional & dedicated individuals I've ever known. But what I admired most was his down to earth attitude and his love for his family. He is truly one of the "Good Guys".
