Can't believe it's been 12 years already. Your Dad sent a Terrific Link to Pastor Hlad's Memorial Day Sermon (US Army Sgt Hlad). It's very a very moving tribute to the influence you had over all whom met you. He has dedicated his life to yours and the memory of other fallen brothers and sisters Shortie. Not sure it gets any easier each year, but am trying to harder to turn it all into a celebration of all you did in your brief but packed 22 years you shared with all of us fortunate enough to have known you. Your folks are doing Great, Your brother and family as well with little Nash growing so fast as you know watching from wherever your mission has you. Uncle does all he can to pass along your story each day, your ours and a Grateful Nations Hero. Part of our Glorious Past and Never to Be Forgotten. Love you Shortie, miss the hell out of you daily, Uncle Butchie, Aunt Liz, Becky and Gracie Girl. Airborne All The Way Forever 22

Uncle Butchie and Aunt Liz think of you everyday Shortie. Can't believe it's your 34th Birthday (Forever 22). You're ours and America's Hero. Wherever God has taken you on your next mission we know it must be an important one. He's always needing someone to boost morale and your infectious smile and unrelenting sense of humor is what the troops up there need. Yes, even the Marines need some humor so be kind to them and its okay to let the Air Force keep their water pistols if it makes them feel safer. Love and Miss You Terribly Nephew. Uncle Donvitto

Cant believe we just completed our 9th Memorial Day Ceremonies. Not a day goes by I/we dont include Shortie in our prayers. It was great to see how many people spread Shorties story and how many he touched in 22 years. What a terrific Person/Soldier he became. Hes got to be proud up there looking down on all the little ones that talk about him, listen to his stories from parents and friends. I could feel him all around all of us this past gathering. God Bless Our Shortie and the many who, like Shortie Gave All so that we could walk freely. Never, ever forget Our Hero. God Bless Our Fallen.

Shortie, This year was a tough one on all of us. 7 years to the day since we suffered the loss of our Hero. But Wherever you are watching us all from, you could not but notice that Many, Many Friends Came to Pay Their Respects, some have now married and best of all Shortie they brought their young children share your story and those of others. Men and Women who gave all so that we might remain FREE. But we will always continue to tell the younger generations of OUR Shortie and how he joined the US Army 82nd Airborne and went off with thousands of others to fight for freedom. WE will tell them how you packed more into 22yrs of life than any other 10 individuals and how wherever you went there was always a smile, a joke, a story and a level of courage few possess. Your story of a life never wasted but lived to the fullest each day will live on long after we are all gone. WE ALL MISS YOU Shortie, Parents, Brother, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Friends and so many more. Thank You Shortie For Your Service and Ultimate Sacrifice. God Bless America

Shortie another Veterans Day is upon us and up goes your worn out All American 82nd Airborne Flag Under the American Flag on the pole. Guess it is time to put the flag that flew all those many months you were gone in the cabinet and order a new one. Folks stop and occaisionally salute the flag and I tell of a young man who left to fight for Freedom, Grew Up Quickly and was taken from us far to soon. But I remind them that as they are Veterans as well that You put in to 22yrs More life than any 10 people, left everyone always smiling and asked us to never worry. I tell them we were lucky for we got you home and we thank God for that. The rest of the story they know the answer too as most have seen combat and lost family and friends alike. We lost a soldier and gained a Hero. Whatever your mission it is good to know that you will always be that Handsome, humorous crazy 22 yr old kid who enjoyed beating up his helpless overweight uncle and I miss you so much Shortie that it hurts. Take care soldier and look after the others. God Bless You and Our Troops. Uncle Donvitto Veterans Day 2012

Im gonna keep my end of the deal. I dont know when, But I will come to the 1904 some day. I miss you bro and I will never forget you. You were a great friend and a great soldier. I am so sorry for your Family and Friends. Its hard when we get sent over seas, and dont come back with everyone standing in formation. Yall are in my Prayers. Im very sorry for your loss.

As we start this new Decade, let us give thanks not just to our Corporal Gregory N. Millard (Shortie) and his sacrifice for all of us. But to all of the Veterans Past and Present who give of themselves each day. Who live with the memories of their breathern worry about the future of a Country they have in many cases, fought for. As a Nation we are only as strong as the foundation of those peoples upon which we are built. For God and Country WE have all served. Let our Flag never fall, let our foundation never crack. For upon the shoulders of each of us rests the future of our children and nation. Shortie gave it ALL, never looking back. God Bless America and those that defend her. I have came by this website quite a few times and never talked myself into leaving a message.

Although I am no longer in the Army and I'm not able to fight for my Country right now. I continue to fight for my community working in law enforcement.

It it selfless sacrifices like the one your Millard made that keeps me in service to others. May god bless your family and I will always keep you in my heart Millard.

Thinking of you today, Gregory, like so many other days. Trying to find the place in my mind that I can go to find comfort. Hoping that your mom, dad and Jason have that place they can find comfort too. The loss of you is a nightmare that no parent or sibling should never have to face-and yet here we are. So my place of comfort is the same as for Rebecca...that you were indeed an angel, and what a crazy, goofy and happy one you were! You were here with us briefly and though the time was so short-we were so blessed with your presence and those memories will last a lifetime. So you left us, your work here done, and wait to meet with us all again. I can wait. But I know when it is time to "come home" I will have some angels there waiting for me! I do find comfort in that.
To everyone I ask, when is the last time you told those close to you that you loved them? Don't wait!

Love to you all! I miss you Gregory!

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Dominique, but I am remembering

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Kevin, Jill & Jason-
I was shocked to hear the news this evening and have been thinking constantly since, about that little guy, I think 5 years old when we first met. I remember bein in Cal Bike and givin Shortie noogies till he begged me to stop, only to have him right backat my heels for more 2 minutes later. Kevin would say "Shortie your asking for it!" and yet it was such good fun with a great and enthusiastic little boy.

I've had two sons of my own since I first met both of your sons, and I know what an incredible job it is to turn out good and respectable citizens. I congratulate both of you, Kevin and Jill on the great job you did with your sons, I know it hasn't been easy.

Jason, I can't imagine how tough it is for you, and I can only say you have always been first class. I'm quite sure your little brother was very proud you were his big brother.

I just want to say Thank you, All of you for the sacrifice you have made for our country myself, my wife, my sons, and grand children to come.

Thank you so very much !

Sir
It was an honor to have meet your family at the bike shop last month. I was deeply touched by your fathers devotion to the remembrance of your memory and as a soldier myself, you will never be forgotten. Your legacy will live on for the remainder of time, and now in mine as well. You have lived the Army Values with Selfless Service. Brothers in arms, I salute you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Well, it's been two months to the day since we laid my cousin to rest, but it hasn't gotten any easier. Each day is actually harder. It's hard to accept and understand that Greg is truly gone. No words can ever explain how any of us feel with the loss of an amazing, yet very human person. He is always missed, and forever loved.

Greg,
I was shocked to hear you passed. I promised that I would meet you in San Diego the summer after you got out. I regret not getting to know you better before I got out; but I'm very thankful for the many good times and many beers we shared in the month before I ets'd. God bless you for your sacrifice. My deepest condolences to the Millard Family.
God Bless,

As I read the other entries, I stop and realize that the Army only has the best. My brother-in-law Clayton G. Dunn II died in the same place and time as Greg. It has been so difficult these past weeks for all of us. I see my 4 mos. old niece and her smile and can see clay in her. These soldiers will never be forgotten. The love and memories they leave behind are priceless. To the family, my family and I feel your pain and know that God will give us Grace and will help us through this. God Bless you! If your family would ever like to meet and talk about the soldiers, we live just 1.5 - 2 hours north of San Diego.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

On behalf of The Millard Family, both immediate and extended. I wish to thank Major Cepe (USArmy), The 82nd Airborne Division (Whose men & women gave new meaning to the phrase "Leave No Man Behind"), the US Army, Air Force and DOD and many fellow Soldiers and Veterans alike. Who worked around the clock to bring our Son/Brother/Nephew/Cousin and American Hero home to us all. Thank you also to the hundreds who attended Shorties Remarkable Services at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetary, San Diego, Ca. and to the thousands who have posted letters and emails to the internet and family. Corporal Gregory N. Millard was the Best our Family had to offer this Country, like his Parents & Brother, he gave it all 150% everyday and in return, the 82nd Airborne gave Shortie 150% when paying him Tribute as a Decorated Hero (Bronze Star W/Cluster, Purple Heart and Many Others). He now rests amongst other heroes of many wars fought to preserve our FREEDOM. Each giving it ALL so that we might Live Free. This Great Country of ours "America" is our Castle, defended by those that ask little more than to remember what they have given so that YOU the public might speak and live freely. Our Hearts Ache, Our Souls Cry Out and We Ask Lord that you take care of our Shortie. He loved life and lived it to the fullest to the end. Always remember on 5/26/2007 God Called Upon our Shortie for a Higher Mission and in typical Shortie Style he answered the call. God Bless You Shortie and God Bless America. Love Uncle Butchie and the Millard Family
