Andrew S. Acree
SPRINGFIELD - Andrew S. Acree, 84, of Springfield died at 1:56 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. He was born September 14, 1926 in Greensburg, KY to John William and Mattie Jane McMahan Acree. He married Ruby L. Hannel on June 21, 1949 and she survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Sandra K. (Michael) Boyer of Mechanicsburg; one son, Gayland E. (Debra) Acree of Springfield; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Jean Myer of Jacksonville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lloyd E. Acree.
Andrew was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and WWII. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Illinois Country Music Hall of Fame, a member of Eagles Aerie #437 and a former member of American Affiliation of Musicians.
He was a resident of Springfield since 1957, previously of Virginia, Illinois. He was owner of Acree Auto Sales and Acree Sign Company and was the leader of the band Country Squires since 1957.
Visitation: 12-1 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Kathy Swaar, CLP officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to Eagles Aerie #437.

Gene, Ruby & family, So sorry for your loss. A nicer man would be hard to find. And a fine musician. I always looked forward to talking to Andy, when we play at the Eagles. He will be greatly missed by many.

I'm so sorry to hear of Andy's passing. I'm pretty sure my father Dean McGrew played in a band with him for a while. Although we lost dad just under 12 yrs ago I still think about him everyday. I hope and pray your family heals quickly from your loss

Your dad was such a great guy and I am so sorry about your loss. I will always have fond memories of your dad from all those great gatherings our families had. Such as the jam session every xmas eve, vacations,and playing at my wedding reception. He was always such a fun person to be around and I will miss his great wit and charm.
