SCOTT FICKEL Obituary

Scott Fickel, 54, of Mount Vernon, passed away Nov. 6, 2013 in Seattle at Swedish Hospital after an unexpected brief illness.

Scott was born in Bellingham, WA on March 2, 1959 to Dwayne B. "Jack" Fickel and Rhoda M. (Halverson) Fickel.

He attended school in Burlington playing tennis and football. Music was his passion and at an early age took up playing the drums spending great times jamming with his friends Curt Small, Jerry Fortier, Jim Hjelt, Laurel Wright and others. One of his favorite songs was "I fought the law and the law won".

An avid skier and snowboarder he could often be found on Mt. Baker. Scott was an excellent cook, working in several restaurants before starting a 28 year career with UPS, retiring this past July. He was so looking forward to a stress free life of leisure, taking mom out to lunch, tending to his beautiful gardens and "Blaze" the cat. Scott was a good son and brother, a gentle soul and a loyal friend.

Preceded in death by his father Jack Fickel and is survived by his mother Rhoda Fickel, sister Molly Fickel (Tim) McCalib and many extended family.

A memorial and following reception will be held at Skagit Golf and Country Club in Burlington on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1pm.

Memorials may be made in Scott's name to the Jack Fickel Scholarship fund in care of Kathi Marilley, Burlington Edison Alumni Assoc., 18155 Joy Place, Burlington, WA 98233.

Scott, we will miss you and your laughter dearly and think of you often, but know that as long as we hold you in our hearts you will be with us always. So long for now and be at peace. P.S. Say hi to Jack and Sammy.

I got to know Scott through his delivering pkgs. at my place of employment and so enjoyed talking to him. I'm so sorry he had only a small time to enjoy his retirement...I had many chats with him about his pending retirement and couldn't wait until "the day" I always enjoyed his gentle ways and that big smile. Rest in Peace Scott and my prayers and thoughts are his family and friends.

Respectfully, Pam Daniel

Scott used to deliver packages to our place of employment. He was a great person and will be missed greatly. He had a great heart and personality. So sad he did not get to enjoy much of his retirement. You will be missed Scott.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those Scott left behind. Scott was always a great guy to me and my family. My wife didn't know many people from the area and would feel uncomfortable at UPS gatherings. Scott would always make it point to make her feel welcomed. He would always spark up a conversation with her and make her feel she was a part of the group. We will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace

Rhoda & Molly, Scott's passing is a huge loss; He was like a brother to me my whole child hood - your family holds a special place in my heart and the memories of our fun times on Peterson Road are wonderful. Scott was a gentle soul and one of the most genuine guys I know. We had many, many good times and he will be missed dearly. I wish I could be there to celebrate him with you, but know I am thinking you. Love, Laurie
