Mario, We sat next to each other in the basement study area during the entire year we spent in SAW (Quantico). Your steady sense of humor became the norm as we fellowshipped throughout the year. Brother, I'm glad to have been in your midst, I'm a better person for it. I will miss you. You have more than done your duty. God bless you brother.

Mario,
Memories of our friendly email exchanges while planning social events for the SAW families make me smile. I was glad to know you then, and now, I'm proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to have been your friend. The fact that you were shot down on your last day in Afghanistan frustrates me beyond measure. Be at peace knowing that your military family is looking out for your loved ones.
Our hearts are hurting, Mario. We will miss you.

Mario, through his dedicated service to the US Marines has made the ultimate sacrifice for our great country. What an awesome legacy to leave for future generations. Not only did he commit to protect and serve his country, he was willing to help bring peace and democracy to oppressed people and countries. Be comforted by the fact that Mario DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD and that alone speaks volumes of his honor, courage and determination. Even through your grief, how very proud each of you must be of your Marine.
We hope the precious memories each of you made with Mario will bring you comfort and sustain you until you are reunited in that far better place we've been promised.
May the Lord give you and your family comfort as you grieve and heal.

I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none. I grieve for your loss and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling. Mario will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero. It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero. May God carry him to Heaven on His precious wings and give him a palace to live in. I pray that our Heavenly Father above will grace you with His love, His comfort and His peace. Heaven's Gates now has a new handsome Marine standing guard. Amen.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Lt.Col. Mario Carazo our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Mario. And to Mario it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Mario, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,335 Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Mario’ family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

I had the honor of serving under LtCol Carazo at MAG 39. He constantly reminded us how important each Marine is keeping us motivated outside the fight. To the Carazo Family, Mario was a real hero and a superstar on our 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Forward Staff. We bless his life and his service to our Corps and Country. We are saddened by his loss, but celebrate the time we were with him. It was an honor to attend his "Ramp Ceremony" as we said goodbye to him and Major Weiss at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. We will be there to welcome him home to MCAS Camp Pendleton. May God give you peace and a sense of honor for giving us such a special person who became a special Marine.
