Joseph Edward Holmes

Joseph Edward Holmes, 74, of Linden, N.J., departed this life on Jan. 7, 2011, at home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2011, at the Nesbitt Funeral Home, 165 Madison Ave., Elizabeth, N.J. Visitation 1is from 10 a.m. until time of services. Born in Macon, Ga., Joe lived in Elizabeth before moving to Linden. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Elizabeth for 36 years until retiring in 1992. While working as a letter carrier, Joe pursued a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Rutgers University and graduated in 1979. In order to remain active during retirement, Joe became employed with LMC Security, as a security guard for several years. He leaves to cherish loving memories his wife, Mary E. Brevard; three children, Timothy, Joseph and Lynette Brevard-Osborne; a son-in-law, Brenton Osborne; six grandchildren; a brother, Albert M. Holmes, Jr.; a sister, Mary E. Graham, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and dear friends.
