Steve’s Eulogy at Dad’s Funeral
October 14, 2010

Hey mom, look what dad did. He got all ten of us kids in church at the same time and they didn’t think he could do it!

(Cell phone rings) Well, that was dad. He finally figured out how to use his cell phone!

Messages from the “cell phone call” from dad . . . .

Dad’s Ten Little Commandments

Jan (Bobo) – Remember, the parking lot isn’t church.
Barb (Boo Boo) – Keep chasing your sisters around with that diaper.
Romaine (Bee Bee) – Please don’t leave your bubble gum stuck to the pew.
Mary (Baby) – Keep doing the monkey call.
Steve (Bomber) – Go out in the rain, you won’t melt.
Jerry (Boy) – Stop smashing the grandkids toys.
Faith (Tweet) – What did you do to your hair?
Mark (It) – Don’t be afraid of cows. Imagine how afraid they will be when you show them your belly.
Sherry (Poopsie) Stop chasing your sister, Dawnie, around with those special little Baby Ruth bars.
Dawn (Imp) – When you run out of patches, duck tape will do the trick.

And now messages for mom . . . .

You know how I always stopped you when you started to tell your little stories? That was because I wanted to get there today instead of tomorrow. Now you can pick up right where you left off and I’ll be right beside you listening.

I know you got all the kids names mixed up once in awhile. Ok, most of the time. But that’s ok because they all get mixed up sometimes too!

Well mom, now there seems to be a big crowd gathering and you know how I am around crowds. I always used to come in and say hello and then goodbye right away. But now that I will be right beside you always and forever, there will be no more goodbyes.

I LOVE YOU!!!!
Dad

Every night when you would say good night and always call my cell asking for boy. I know deep down that we all have a day chosen for us to join you in heaven. If its time for my Grandma Joyce's time to go soon to see her beloved family that passed before her. Could you please come down and be her angel and guide her peascefully to heaven! I love you Grumpy and I am doing the best I can to take care of Mom and Mark. I love your family very much!!!!! Thankyou for excepting me into your family with warm loving arms and a great family!!

Dad S. Always called when I was in working in the garage and when Rae was not home, I would answer the phone. So last night Rae was out in the garage while I was working and the phone rang. I said, probably your Dad and he would always ask what are you doing? I would always reply, working in the Garage. He knew that I lived there. But it was Mark this time that called. Rae, got a kick out of that.

October 15, 2010

I know he must have shrugged and said "OK God. I've done all I can from here. It;s time I walk with you and watch over them all in all that they do in a much bigger scale. I can have more impact with all the angels at my side." With a big smile and a breath of love, he left us. We have heavy hearts but his is light. He smiles knowing that we will all be together again someday!

Jolene Blake

October 15, 2010

Greetings in your sorrow, dear Schiminski family.
It was about 1968-1970 when Jerry coached our girls softball team at Epiphany school. We packed more than 10 kids into that blue (or was it white van?) for many journeys to Camden and other ballparks. There were no seats and no seatbelt laws in those days! What patience he had enduring the gripes and whining and badgering of a dozen teenage girls!
I still have my trophy softball Jerry gave me for "Sportsmanship" and I think I'll give it back to him now! These past 14 years or more, since I've been back to Church, I've seen Jerry several times a week at daily Mass. We'd greet each other coming and going.
Just a few weeks ago, I remember thinking as he would go down on both knees (as is proper and correct) before the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel...boy, at his age,(and height!) he does it with such ease and reverence...also, many times I would be behind him at Mass in the Chapel, as he knelt on the floor rather than the kneeler and I wondered at his extra sacrifice in doing that!
But, most striking and notable, (and I tell you this because few on earth have a father who is this close to Jesus) is the childlike, loving reverance he showed when as Sacristan he had to check out how many consecrated hosts were in the Tabernacle before Mass, so he could prepare enough to be consecrated at the Mass coming up...after the necessary kneeling on both knees before Our Lord, he would bend over as he opened the Tabernacle and kiss the side of Jesus' little house. You may think, one (I) should have custody of eyes and be in prayer, but he was silently still coaching me, by example after 44 years, and I would whisper to Jesus...You gotta love a guy like that...he kisses your house!! Anyway, what I want to say to all of you, especially if any of you are away from the Holy Catholic Church (as I was for a time) and as many are today...make your dad's love for Our Lady and Jesus, a living legacy, carried out by you! Jerry wouldn't think of passing by St. Joseph without haveing a little prayerful chat with him or the many times he approached Our Lady asking her intercession for (probably one of you)! What a quiet inspiration and holy example he was to me!
The Catholic Church asks and reminds us to pray for our beloved dead each day...it is a good practice...I know he is praying for us! Jolene (Parks) Blake (sorry, I couldn't attend his funeral)

To Mr. Schiminski, (as that is what I have called you all my life). You can rest in peace knowing you have created quite a legacy both with the great number of children and with your church. My most memorable moment will always be you piling up your tiny car with your large family. It was just like being at a circus when they would all pile out. Rest in Peace. And to all the relatives you leave behind be rest assured he is in the arms of the Lord and waiting up there with a tiny car for you to all pile into again.

You may have thought I didn't see,
Or that I hadn't heard,
Life lessons that you taught to me,
But I got every word.

Perhaps you thought I missed it all,
And that we'd grow apart,
But Dad, I picked up everything,
It's written on my heart.

I miss you all the time,
But now we will all see you again,
When the time is right you will have with you, mom, plus all your schmucks of ten.

I love you.

Since the first day I met Jerry, he's been extremely loyal to the Catholic church, always on his children to 'get to church'. Tuesday after discussing Jerry's service at Epiphany we all went to Billy's bar and grill to got thru pictures. While laughing over stories all the kids and Mom told about Dad, 3 priests walked out to where we sat, each from a different door. Every one of the kids were wide eyed and simultaneously said "It's a sign from Dad! Oh my gosh he's still telling us to get to get church!" One of the priests just happened to be the one that blessed Dad in the hospital, he came to the table and said a prayer for us. He's still watching!

October 12, 2010

Jerry, you were always "just there" at Epiphany Church...helping, praying, evangelizing...our children grew up together and we have been church associates since day one...we are so sorry for your family, but happy for you because we know you are up there in heaven and can now enjoy being in God's presence and get the answers to all our questions that we are saving for HIM. Peace be to you...
warmest wishes to all your family.....Roger and Marge Wierman and family.
