I feel certain that this is the Mr. Alt who taught me chemistry and physics at Washington High School. I graduated in 1964 and then became a chemical engineer graduating from UMR in 1969. Mr. Alt was by far the best teacher I ever had and he is the main reason I went into engineering. I am so sorry he passed. I am now 66 years old and I keep my slide rule on my mantle. Every time I pick it up I think of Mr. Alt.

Mr. Alt was very influential in my post-education, "education." I went back to college (ECC) when I was 35 years old. Mr. Alt gave me confidence that I could do it. He was an extremely competent instructor, in many disciplines, and at the same time, a very nice man. He will be missed.

Leroy was my first introduction to a college professor when I took engineering classes at ECC. He by far was the best overall teacher I encounter during my college career. He could present material in a way that made it easy to understand the most difficut theory. You have my deepest condolences in your loss.

Mr. Alt was a significant positive influence in my life. 33 years ago after graduating in the bottom of my high school class he convinced me that anybody can be good at math and science and that I should consider engineering. A month into his first class he asked me to stay after class. He said... Jim go get your eyes checked. After receiving my first pair of glasses a whole new academic world opened up to me. I obtained a BS/EE degree from UMR and a Masters from Washington University. Mr. Alt challenged his students and expected their best. And he gave positive support along the way. I will always remember him. To his family, friends, and colleagues please accept my condolence. I will continue to pray for you as well as the Mr. Alt. Sincerely,
Pat Sullivan

As a faculty member at UMR, I knew of Leroy's reputation as an outstanding teacher before I met him, or even knew his name. Pretty much everyone in the UMR EE department knew of this super teacher from East Central who turned out students that often graduated at the top of their class. I eventually did meet and work with Leroy, and consider him the best educator I’ve had the privileged to know. His dedication to his students, and willingness to work long hours to insure their success is legendary.
Leroy was a pleasure to work with. He was a gentleman, had a level head, a positive outlook, a good sense of humor – and was always willing to help others. I’ll miss him.

I was a student at ECC that took many of Mr. Alt's classes. I graduated with a bachelors degree in electrical engineering. I can truly say that Mr. Alt had a great impact on my success in life. I'm sure that he will be missed by family and friends but he touched the lives of many students through the years. Sincerely, Kevin Stumpe
