Phillip Vinnedge Obituary

Vinnedge, US Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Phillip D. died the way he lived, serving others. He was born February 22, 1991 in Spokane, Washington and died October 13, 2010 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was 19 years old. Phillip wanted to join the military since 9/11 and in September of 2009 his dream was fulfilled when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Marine, a Boy Scout, an Order of the Arrow member, a wrestler, a skydiver, a welder, a member of a trap shooting club, a brother, a friend, and a son. He graduated from Francis Howell Central in 2009 while also attending Lewis & Clark Technical School for two years. Phillip loved life, and he loved challenges. From simple childhood bets and dares, to personal goals and accomplishments, Phillip never backed down from a challenge. Despite his determination and frequent success, Phillip never sought accolades or recognition for his accomplishments, instead being content with reaching his own personal goals. Phillip leaves behind his parents, Dave and Julie Vinnedge, his brothers Corey and Jason, his sister-in-law Rebekah, and his grandfather Roy Southern as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Among his many friends, he leaves behind his elementary school friends Zach Will and Brennan Weems and his girlfriend Shelby Bradshaw. We also remember those who have gone before him, especially his grandparents Chester James Vinnedge (1984), Eva Day Vinnedge (1999), and Eleanor Stockton Southern (2001). Services: Family and Friends will be able to join in a Celebration of Life Service for Phillip on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Shepherd, 1601 Woodstone Drive, St. Charles, Missouri 63304. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, from 3:00 - 8:00 PM, at the BAUE Funeral & Memorial Center, 3950 West Clay, St Charles, Missouri 63301. Burial with full military honors will follow services at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Phillips life through a donation may drop off unwrapped toys for the Marine Toys for Tots program at the church, funeral home, or Francis Howell Central High School. Memorials may also be sent in his memory to Marine Toys for Tots, c/o Baue Funeral Home 3950 West Clay, St Charles, Missouri 63301. To share memories and condolences please visit www.baue.com

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Phillip D. Vinnedge US Marine Lance Corporal.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

Dear Vinnedge family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Phillip will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to L/Cpl Phillip Vinnedge our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Phillip. And to Phillip it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Phillip, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Phillip’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, to learn of the loss of LCpl Phillip Vinnedge.
As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly and having lost a brother to war...
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache, that seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes.
In the days ahead, you will be going through unimaginable grief, please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.

May the memories of your Brave Young Marine, remain in your heart always and give you strength through the difficult days and may Phillip, rest safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.

I am the sister, of such a 19 year young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

Never my soul, still the song,
Of wounded hearts, their loved one gone,
Of him who gave his life, for me,
That I might live, in liberty.

Sincerely hoping that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Grateful Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A True American Hero to all of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
