For me, there was no better talk-radio than the early to mid 90's on 610 WIOD. All local talk and callers who contributed to the most entertaining radio. Nothing to this day compares. Neil was the best, could talk for 4 hours straight without drawing breath and is sorely missed.

Mark here. Long time listener, several time caller. Neil, I miss you so much. I think of you often. And when doing so I smile, then I'll laugh, then I become solemn, saddened that your no longer with us. I never had the pleasure to meet you Neil. I almost approached you at a Dolphins game (you were sitting with Fat Rich) but was too shy. Didn't want to interrupt. I now wish I had met you. To shake your hand and thank you. Not only for the entertainment value of your show but for those life lessons you brought forth. Thank you Neil for your courage and conviction. For being you.

Love you Neil

Our family moved from Rochester, NY, Neil's hometown, to S. Florida in 1986. We immediately became Neil addicts. Not only was he outrageous and extremely witty, he was amazingly bright. Hey Neil, I could never get enough of you each day on your radio station. I would get so upset when the show would end early because of a baseball game, even though you would count the minutes until you were out of there. I miss you, and these tears are for real.

Neil My Love, I found you in the early 80's. I then followed you from one radio station to another, AM to FM and back to AM again, with the Zeta show being my favorite. I would listen to you on the way to work. Once I arrived at work I would climb my crane as fast as I could in order not to miss anything good. Once in the crane I had the privilege of listening to the remainder of the show. This routine I repeated for over 20 yrs. With all this in mind, I have to say that Uncle Neil had a Fantastic Influence on my life. We could never put a price on what we owe him, but what we can do is say with a heavy heart, we Love You and will always remember you.
THANK YOU.

just like listening to NPR today, listening to NEIL was the highlight of my day. Never shying away from what he was thinking, and expressing it on the air gave me just a little more confidence in what ever I was doing. He also helped me deal with my homosexuality. I wish I could be at the memorial. it will be a real celebration of Neil Rogers life. He was truly an inspiration for all.

I first met Neil when I was 14 years old and he had a lasting impression on me. I feel fortunate to have gotten to know Neil on a personal level. Neil liked my enthusiasm for radio and calling in local talk show hosts and bashing them. During my school years I wrote a lot of papers on Neil. I have posted one of my most prized possessions a photo of Neil’s ZETA days. Neil signed the photo “To My Biggest Fan”. I truly was his biggest fan. Hope that brings back good memories for all who listened to Neil during that wonderful time. Say hi to Fat Rich for me. I used to see him often in Pumpernicks in Palmetto Bay (formerly Suniland). Years from now people will not even believe Neil’s type of radio show ever existed… what a shame. I’ll continue your legacy, Neil.

Hi to Tony D. the barber. I’ll visit you soon to reminisce about Neil.

Funny how a guy you never met becomes a "radio friend" For 20 years, through career problems, money problems, wife problems, kid problems, you name it...he made my heart lighter. Whether there is a God or heaven or not, who knows. But is sure is fun to think that someday we'll all be listening to him again. Thanks for being my radio friend.

I lived in Sunrise from 1989 to 1994. When I first arrived, my lawnmower was dead and I took it out to a small engine repair store in Davie. The owner had Neil on the radio (WIOD) in his garage, and knowing that I was a newcomer, he advised me that listening to NR was the only way to stay sane down there. He was right! Near that time, NR was on with the "The Bird" (that eventually didn't work out). I never got used to the crowds and density of the three South Florida counties and was glad to leave five years later. But I recall the friendly advice of that lawnmower repair guy and admit that he was right: NR kept me going during my time there. I still can't stop laughing every time I hear "Bridgetender". RIP Neil Rogers.

I got to know Neil personally over the years through mutual acquaintances, and developed a rapport with him. I met Neil for the first time at an appearance he did at a boat dealership on US1 in Cutler Bay. Neil used to enjoy when I would call local radio stations and make prank calls - the majority of these talk shows hosts have passed away. My collection of Neil Rogers radio memorabilia is extensive. I have posted a picture of a promotional button from his ZETA days. Neil, now that you are in the big talk show in the sky say hi to Peppy Fields, Jerry Witch-ner, Glen Hill and my Grandparents. I wish you could do one last show… just for old time sake.

Neil, you were the biggest influence in my life. I still can not believe you are gone.

December 28, 2010

A day at the beach listening to Neil on my radio was the best day ever. He was more than a voice over the airwaves. We felt like he was part of our family. He made us laugh, cry, and most of all he challenged the powers that be. "Loan me $50" became part of our family's venacular along with so many other bits. How do you thank someone for 30 years of being there for you? When I was down he made me laugh. When I felt lonely he was there. We miss you Uncle Neil. We are truly "wasting away in good old Hallandale" now.

Louie D

December 28, 2010

Not only did I relate to Neil as a local host in South Florida, I too am originally from Rochester. I know Don & Bob's and Nick Tahoe's, Zweigles Hot Dogs and Genesee Beer.

Radio has never been the same when he was on and will never be, EVER! Neil was getting ratings unheard of on TV and FM, let alone and AM station. Can you ever recall a time when someone got a 9 share on an AM radio Station? Syndicated show do not put up those kind of numbers!

The microphone is now and will forever be in silence. Rest in peace Neil.

A day without listening to Neil was a tough day. When he went on vacation, wanted the time go by quickly. Remember how we laughed when he talked of Ben and Jerry's Phish Food and many grocery stores ran out because Neil talked about it. How we laughed when callers kept asking for Bridgetender and Young Neil! How he was intolerant of religion and the silly dresses that they wore. Whether you liked him or not he had the power that you were listening. Remember he "never stole a freight train"
