Richard Montross Obituary

May 19, 2012

Richard "Dick" Montross, 75, of Chittenango, NY, passed peacefully at Crouse Hospital, with his beloved wife, Marg and their three children by his side. He was born September 6, 1936 in North Bay, NY where he was a volunteer firefighter and private contractor. He was a graduate of Delhi College and was passionate about his craft of building and fine carpentry. In 1962, the day he returned to North Bay from Germany, after two years of U.S. Army service, he met his wife, Marg and went on to build their home on Quarry Rd. in Chittenango, where they raised their three children. Dick worked as a structural draftsman at Stearns and Wheeler in Cazenovia until 1999, was a Charter Member of the Chittenango Lions Club, serving as president twice in his 40 years of service, and was a devoted parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango. Dick was predeceased by parents, Mary Irene (Corcoran) Montross and Clayton Montross; stepfather, Dr. James Wilson; and four brothers, Ronnie, Roger, Larry, and Bob.

Surviving are his loving wife, Marg (Fero) Montross of Chittenango; three children, Suzanne Riddelberger and partner, Marshall Hutton of Virginia Beach, Stephen Montross of Tully, Cynthia Montross-Tipa and husband, Maaka Tipa of New Zealand; grandson, Manu Tipa, and granddaughter, Maia Tipa. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Chittenango Lions Club, and Crouse Hospital Stroke Center.
