I have known him for more than 40 years,he was good friend and a very strong supporter of FRC. He was a perfect gentleman and readily helped everybody he knew. I will miss him.

Members of the ACI Committee 544 are deeply saddened by the news of Jim's passing on Saturday 21 January. Jim was a willing contributor and supporter of many industry and ACI Committee activities, especially in the area of Fiber Reinforced Concrete. He last served as the chair of subcommittee 544-A on Production and Applications. I have communicated with several committee members and they have expressed tremendous respect for him as he was a gentleman who always came forward with many contributions, information, and technical support in our meetings and reports. I personally appreciate all the support he provided me in learning to set and work through various committee objectives. On behalf of ACI544, I send our deepest sympathies to his family for his loss and express our gratitude for having had such an exemplary colleague in him. His contributions to the field, his gentlemanly conduct and professional mannerism are very much appreciated by his colleagues.

I have a lot of earlier fond memories of Jim. He would always challenge me to a game of basketball when I was a teen, wrestle and always would call to say hello when he was passing through. God Bless Uncle Jim.

Mine eyes have seen the Glory of The coming of The Lord !! To the Speakman family; Mr Jim welcomed me into the MTSU CIM family in 2006 as part of the EAC. His presence and compassion for the program was genuine but overshawdowed by his ability to make all, including me, feel welcome, valued and yes even loved. May the Lord ease your suffering and loss.

Jimmy and I were distant cousins and spent several of our childhood years playing together. My family used to go to his parents second home in Gallatin on Old Hickory Lake and spend hours swimming in the lake. He was always a better swimmer than me. We lost touch over the years until a year or so ago when I saw him at Goodnaz. I'm so sorry for the family's sudden loss of this great man. My prayers are with you. I pray that God will wrap his arms around you all and give you comfort.

Nobody I know had more true friends than Jim. He was immediately likable (loved), trusted, and generous, He will be missed everyday. He kept in touch more than daily with those whom he worked with and loved. Marsha and I are praying for Carol, the family, and all who knew him.

We met Jim briefly through our son, Lee Thrasher. Please accept our sincere sympathy in your loss. Jim made an impact upon our family by taking time to mentor Lee throughout his schooling and during his career in the concrete industry.
