J. O'Quinn Obituary

J. Gary O'Quinn

HOUSTON - Gary O'Quinn passed away unexpectedly on June 5, 2012. Gary was born in Beaumont, Texas on February 4, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents A.B. O'Quinn and Irene Nobles O'Quinn and his sister Bebe Wilder.

He graduated from Beaumont High School in 1955 and attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana, Lafayette) on a football scholarship, graduating with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1959.

Gary truly enjoyed his career as a Petroleum Engineer for over 44 years.

He retired in 2004 after being associated with F.J. Brown and Associates for 17 years.

He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including gardening, sports, country and western music, barbeque and ice cream. In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed fellowship with his hunting buddies. He was a great listener but also a great storyteller.

Gary was a member of Terra Verde Community Church and as a Christian was in awe of God and all of His creations. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and took great delight in watching his grandchildren play, laugh, grow and mature.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jeannene; daughter Gizell Simmons and her husband Eric of Lafayette, LA; stepdaughter Jennifer Schoppe and her husband Stephen of Cypress, TX; stepson Jason Lalonde of Cypress, TX; grandson Hunter Simmons and his wife Jamie and granddaughter Hannah Simmons of Lafayette, LA; Zachary Fritsche, Luke Schoppe and Elizabeth Schoppe of Cypress, TX; sister Judy Noble and brother Tracy O'Quinn and wife Cheryl of Beaumont, TX.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 8 at 2:00 at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, TX 77065.

Gizell, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I so fondly remember your Dad.....even though it has been so very long ago that I knew him and had the good fortune of being your friend. Your Dad was a wonderful man and Father.
