John Patrick Obituary

A loving and devoted father and husband, John Charles "J.C." Patrick passed away at his home the morning of Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011. He was 69. A longtime resident of Prairieville, he was born in Texarkana, Ark., and raised in Raceland. Visiting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. Visitation at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, La. 73, in Prairieville, on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m., until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Paul Gros, celebrant, and Deacon Jodi Moscona. Burial in Oak Lane Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his godson, Lyle Boudreaux, Lance Rodriguez, Billy Cook, Fred Carter, Corey Patrick and Jimmy Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers are Milton Williams, Michael Stewart, Danny Stewart and Mark Sylvester. Survived by his wife, Sandra Jumonville Patrick, of Prairieville; son, Kelly John Patrick, of New Orleans; brother, Jim Patrick, of French Settlement; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Joseph Jumonville Jr. and Gloria Knight Jumonville, of Baton Rouge; nephew, Corey Patrick; nieces, Melissa Jumonville, Casey Blount and Amy Sibley; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, John M. Patrick and Jennie Lena Patrick, who were of Raceland. He received a B.S. and M.S. in entomology from LSU and enjoyed applying the knowledge he gained in school to his career. An active member of the Louisiana Sugar Industry for more than 30 years, he worked as a crop consultant for sugar cane farmers and also worked at the Alma Sugar Mill during grinding season. He was a member of the American Sugar Cane League. In addition to his work in sugar cane, he was also a longtime pillar of the Baton Rouge area landscaping community. He was the founder, owner and president of ProScape & Agricultural Consulting Co. He was a past president and Nurseryman of the Year of the Louisiana Nursery and Landscape Association, and a past president and founding member of the Baton Rouge Landscape Association. Outside of his work, he was an avid horseman, and loved the rural life, caring for his horses, bush-hogging his pasture, caring for the land and helping his neighbors. He deeply loved his family friends, and colleagues, and relished in the time he spent with them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in J.C.'s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.
