Otto Alstergren Sandberg

Otto Alstergren Sandberg passed away at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor in Baton Rouge. He was 85, born in Odda, Norway, on Nov. 13, 1926. He served in the Norwegian military. He came to the United States from Norway in 1946, attended the University of Southern California and graduated in chemical engineering in 1951. He joined Borden Chemical in Freemont, Calif., where he was plant manager in 1961. In 1980, he became general manager of plant services with Borden Chemical in Geismar. Under his supervision, Borden Chemical had an outstanding plant record. He retired in 1991 and became a consulting engineer in European operations. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edvin and Aagot Sandberg; former wife, Jodene Arlis Parr Sandberg; a daughter, Christine Parr Sandberg; and a brother, Edvin Alstergren Sandberg, M.D. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Daigle Sandberg; daughters, Ellen Parr Sandberg, Suzanne Parr Sandberg and Signe Parr Sandberg; a son, Lars Parr Sandberg and wife Lynn; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister, Signe Bach-Gansmo; and brother, Hagbart Alstergren Sandberg. Otto was a longtime member of Rotary, a member of Sons of Norway, Lief Erikson Lodge 2-001 and a member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Visiting will be Saturday, Feb. 4, in the St. Francis Chapel at Ollie Steele Burden Manor, 4250 Essen Lane, from 1 p.m. until Mass of the Resurrection at 2 p.m., celebrated by Monsignor Gerald M.
