I met Mark during a 30 day course at Ft. Lewis in 2007. We kept up for a while and we ran into each other again in 2009 during a 4 month course at Ft. Benning. It burned pretty bad when I heard the news all those years ago and I still think about him all these years later, even if we only knew each other for a short time. He was a charismatic guy who never had a down day.

I am sorry I took so long to let you know how sorry I am for Mark's loss. My son (Matt Williams) was in Mark's unit and loved him dearly. My heart breaks for you still and I remember you and your family in my prayers.
Please remember Matt in your prayers also. I know nothing can replace Mark, but rest assured, he will never be forgotten for his service and sacrifice.

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes, going through bouts of shock, disbelief and rage. I had just gotten word today and I find myself reading these comments, many of which are from kind folks who did not even know Mark, but I knew Mark. I've had the pleasure of blowing off some steam with him on the weekends back in Colorado. I met him through mutual friends and regrettably wish I knew him better. He had so much charisma and life. Mark always complimented any gathering with his warmhearted character and energy. I've never known him to have lied or thought ill of anyone. It will be a somber return home when we gather again at Jack Quinn's (our weekend pub of choice), Mark's void painfully reminding us of the sacrifice that this endeavor has cost our magnificent country. Mark's blood, sweat and tears are the ultimate testament of our nation's might and grace. He represents all that's best in us. I've not been religious for some time, nor am I now, but may Providence comfort his family. He will dearly be missed by us all who remain here, taken from this world, his spirit is ever still by our side. Looking back, there's no way I could have imagined that he'd be sleeping in his dress blues right now, no, not Mark. Just shy of 25, his loss is a tragedy. My sincerest thoughts are with all his family back in Nebraska and his brethren in 1-22 INFANTRY.

Although I did not know your son/brother/friend, I stood outside today and watched as hundreds of people who did know him drive by. I stood along that route with hundreds of my coworkers to pay my respects and to thank him for allowing me to be FREE. I personally thank every soldier I see for their service to this country, and I thank you for raising a son who was willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for me. It sounds like he was truly an amazing young man, and it was obvious today how much he was loved. I will pray to God today and many days to follow that you will find the peace and comfort from Him to endure your loss. God's blessings to all of you.

To the parents of Mark Noziska; I am a military mom and whenever a young soldier looses their life it breaks my heart and the tears cannot stop. We can be so proud of our children and how they are so strong to protect our country. My son said that everyone whom he served with is his brother or sister and that they are a special family. May God give you strength, and may you feel the love of others.

Never in a million years did I think that I would ever be signing a guestbook for your obituary. It is still unreal to me that you are truly gone. For someone so valuable to this world to be taken at such a young age is something way too hard to comprehend. I miss you more and more as each day passes and you're on my mind 24 hours of every day. I am so proud of everything you have done. None of us will ever be able to put into words how thankful we are for what you have done on behalf of all of us. The world lost one of its most amazing people on August 30th, 2010, and no one will ever come close to being able to replace you. You're a hero in the eyes of all who knew you. I know you will forever surround us and look after all your loved ones. You will always be in my heart.
Miss and Love you more than words can express.
Until we meet again...

The military has a ceremony during formal dinners that is very moving. With some variations, this ceremony is commonly called the POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony, or the White Table ceremony. It is described as having a small table covered with a white table cloth with an empty chair leaned against it; the table is set with an overturned wine glass, a black napkin, a lighted white candle, a lemon wedge, salt and a red rose -- a tribute to soldiers missing in action, who are prisoners of war or those loved ones that have fallen. Mark will forever be among those remembered by his ROTC classmates, friends and comrades in arms. Our deepest sympathy to Mark’s family and friends.

Although I did not know this amazing young man, I can tell he was loved, admired, and honored by all who knew him. He was however, a friend to some of my very special friends and family. As I sit here with tears strewing down my face, I can only imagine the loss that is felt by all. Be assured that the price Mark has paid for all of us to have freedom, has made a difference in this world. His death has truly touched my life in a way I never would have imagined, and I believe that I speak for many others in the USA that did not know him when I say THANK YOU for having the courage to give your life for us. My heart is heavy with sadness for the family and friends of this truly amazing and gifted young Soldier. May God guide you through your grief and bless you with peace through this time and during the years ahead as you continue to miss this blessing of a man. Thanks to Mark, I no longer take for granted those that serve our country to make a difference in this world. Marks light will shine bright in Heaven. Go Huskers.....Go Mark!

My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family for your loss. It's evident that the baby you brought home grew up to be an amazing young man to be so proud of. Mark wore many hats as a son, brother, grandson, uncle, friend etc.. The last and the greatest, was that of a soldier. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we in the USA and those in other countries enjoy and sometimes seem to take for granted. It wasn't until our own son joined the Army and was deployed this summer that we have come to realize the true extent of Mark's sacrifice and that of your family. May only the good memories fill your heart with love, replace the darkest of moments with sunshine and know that God has welcomed your son home! Mark and your family will always remain in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

Nothing I can say here will express how grateful I am to have called you friend. I can only say 'what an honor' it was and is to know and have known you, without being able to effectively express with words how much of an honor it actually was. For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms 1Lt. Mark Noziska. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Mark. And to Mark it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Mark, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Mark’s family and loved ones.
