LAKELAND - Joel Wade Chastain, 28, passed away on Monday, Apr. 20, 2009.
Joel was born on December 29, 1980 in Lakeland.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne Newman, Ferne and Nema Lash, and Henry Chastain. He is survived by his loving family: mother Pam and husband Gary Lee; his father, Russell Chastain; sister, Trisha Spooner; brother, Shaun Chastain; grandmother, Margaret Chastain; three nieces and one nephew, all of Lakeland.
Visitation will be held on Thurs., Apr. 23, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Gentry-Morrison Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd., Lakeland. Funeral services will be held on Fri., Apr. 24, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Wilson House, P.O. Box 2461, Lakeland, FL 33806.
To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Joel, i just wanted to tell you how much i look up to you man. I miss you so much. I will always remember your laugh, i can still hear it, in my head. When i met you, and you told me about your band, i thought you were a huge Rockstar. I loved hearing your stories about touring and the road. You were such a good drummer, thank you so much for being such an awesome friend to me. When i moved out of my parents house i came to live with you, those are some of the best memories i have. I just wanted to say that everytime I help someone, I think of you. And the other day, I even saw you in my mind riding in the car with me. I felt your compassionate heart with me as I helped a few people that needed it this week. I also felt your presence in the car driving home from mom's house. It felt like you were riding in the car with me. Bryce and Anae always bring you up to me to try to make me feel better. It doesn't, but they sure do try. They really miss you and talk about heaven a lot. They know you are there. I know that God is always with me, and that you are with God, so that means that if you are with God, and God is with me, then you are always with me too. Right now, that is the only thing that is getting me through...and helping me to get out of bed. Thank you for always wanting to help others and go out of your way for them. What can I say about you Joel that hasn't already been said? You touched so many people in so many ways! I believe you were a living angel for your time here on earth. we got so close the last few months, I miss our morning ritual of watching saved by the bell, eating choclate eclairs, and just sitting around talking. I remember when I cooked dinner for the 3 of us, you ALWAYS complimented me on how I could make the best mac n cheese or hamburger helper LOL.... I think of you every day. I still talk to you in my head like you are still right beside me. I know you hear me, I can feel your presence. Not a single day went by that you didn't tell me (and Ronnie) "I Love you guys" and give the biggest, warmest hug. Thanks for being such a good friend. Till we meet again, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!

Joel, I miss you everyday. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of you and long to see you. BJ and I made a garden for you out in the backgyard. We spelled your name out in blocks and planted a pretty plant in the middle of the O in your name. We also got you some goldfish in a pond in the garden. I brought you some gum and candy and I wrote you a letter. I know you see that CANDY and GUM from where you are...LOL. I'm so glad you are free, but I sure do miss you and want you back so bad. I know you are better off, but I just hurt so much . I ran into a good friend of yours last night and mom and I laughed and it felt like I was with you for those few moments. I wished it could have lasted forever. I hope you continue to visit me in my dreams all the time...they comfort me so much. I just wanted to tell you I love you and I miss you and I can't wait to see you again....hopefully sooner than later. Love, your sister. Bryce and Anae say HI and they miss you so much too!

It has been many years since Joel, my dear friend and I were in the same room, let alone the grotto van with all the guys(about 8 years). I will always remember his loving heart and huge smile. He helped me get through my hardest teen years and develop who I have become. There hasn't been a day when I don't think back to those days. You will be very missed Joel, may you be a peace. xoxo

I wish I could have been there to pay my respect. Joel was one of the most caring,funny,lovable,intelligent person I have ever met. He could always make me smile with that devilish grin, no matter how down I was feeling. He was a gift from God and loved by all. He will be missed, but always remembered.

Dear Pam and Gary, How many boys did we have between us in the last 20 years across the street from each other--8, 10?
I'll never forget the sound of the skateboards coming from "the Maj", knowing they were safely on their way home. I'll never forget the crushed glass in the driveway closeby to keep them out. I can only imagine the process you must go through now to grieve the loss of Joel in your lives. From all I've read of the previous messages, Joel loved to laugh and bring joy to others. My heart feels a stitch of pain when I think that you will have to wait 'til Heaven now to experience times with Joel like that again. But happier days WILL come. I use to look forword to every day that we got to work together on B3. The excitement that you showed for being able to care for others and having a chance to make a difference in their lives, was overwhelming. Joel was my neighbor for a year..HE WAS MY SWEET NEIGHBOR. We wrote each other emails, even we were living almost 2 feet apart.lol The first time, when I introduced him to my friends at church, I pronounced "Labor" on mistake, instead of "Neighbor". He looked at me and burst out laughing. I always went ringing his bell and he would open the door and gave me a big hug. He would then keep watching TV and I would start my talking. I was 17 and he was 26. We were friends. Yes, friends. I cared about him. I liked him a lot and I still like him. But I know friends grow apart SOMETIMES. But I have to say that yes, I always think of him and I love him in a way of an innocent little girl.
I just have so much to say but the person I want to talk to the most right now, I couldn't call. We kinda lost contact after he moved out.
But it was a good memory. haha, Joel was the guy next door, nice and sweet. He called himself sweetheart also..lol
I did feel bad that may be I didn't try hard enough to keep in touch with him, may be it was just simply not enough.
Anyway, lol, I will keep praying for Joel for where you are now and for his family.

Chastain Family~
I remember the beat of Joel's drum when he would come over after work. He would often eat dinner with us and we always knew we were in good company when he was around. He would always make us laugh - Brian and Joel used to work together. Not long ago Brian called me to let me know that Joel was up @ his work visiting.. Brian very much cherished the friendship that they shared. Joel was a bright young man and will truly be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you and your family.
