KEVIN PETIT Obituary

MISSION - Lt. Kevin Scott Petit, Jr., 27, passed away on December 13, 2011, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Pharr, Texas. He will be remembered as an extraordinary young man, who was very active in his church, BT McAllen. He was a 2008 graduate of UTPA with a BS in Biology, Kevin was a member of the Army National Guard, and was deployed to Iraq for a period of a year. When he returned, he was hired at UTPA as the Freshman Military Science Professor in the ROTC Department.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents Joseph and Carol Petit and his grandfather Manuel Nieto.
He is survived by his wife Ashley Petit of Mission (who was his fifth grade sweetheart); mother Luisa (Evert) Marmaduke of Mission; siblings Kristopher (Hilda) Petit of Brownsville, Krystal Petit of Mission, Kyle Petit of Mission; nephew Candide Petit; father Kevin Scott Petit Sr. He is also survived by many Aunts and Uncles as well as many other family members. Kevin will also be missed by his two puppies Archie & Oliver.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, 2011, from 1pm until 9pm with a 7pm prayer service at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 10:00am at BT McAllen. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
Services are under the direction of Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission.

To Kevin's family, our deepest and most sincere condolences. For those of you that didn't know, Kevin was a member of the 1995 Texas State Chess Championship Team from Russell Elementary. That was possibly the strongest team I ever coached as the Russell mentor. The team was comprised mostly of about twenty 5th graders, and that year no one came close to touching us. Kevin was a member of that team, and one of those 5th graders. He was a strong chess player, a prolific tournament competitor, and a heck of a teammate. I never heard him utter a negative word about anything or anyone. He always did the right thing. His loving eyes were full of innocence and yet strength at the same time, and he became as great as his personality was. Kevin, thanks for the memories, and for being part of our lives. You will be missed by all of us. Once again, we wish to extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences. May he rest in peace.

My sincerest condolences to Luisa and Ashley and their families. I had the privilege of being Kevin's teacher his junior year at Hanna and of also knowing him at First Baptist.
