EARL STOTLER Obituary

EARL EDWARD STOTLER Earl Edward Stotler, 86, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 25. Born to one of the pioneer families of the Rio Grande Valley, Earl grew up an active Boy Scout, earning the rank of Life and was one of the first scouts selected to attend the Philmont Camp in New Mexico. As a young man, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II and later served in the Korean War. Known as "Goober" to friends and family, Earl was a proud and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church of McAllen and also served the community via the city's Planning and Zoning Board and the McAllen Rotary Club, with which he had perfect attendance for 47 years. Earl was passionate about hunting, fishing, and gardening, especially his many citrus trees. Captivated by the possibilities during a visit to the New Jersey State Fair, he dove headlong into the canning of jams, pickles, and other delights. Before long, his "Goober's Goodies" were winning their own blue ribbons at the Texas State Fair. He is survived by his beloved "Tootsie Roll", his wife Mary of 65 years, his three sons, Kim of Corpus Christi, wife Wanda; Daren of Plainsboro, New Jersey, wife Margaret; and Dana of Flower Mound, wife Marcy; as well as five grandchildren, Brent, Tiffany, Briana Villaneuva, Lauren, and Alexis; and three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Nicholas, and Madison. Earl was preceded in death by his parents William and Ruth Stotler of Pharr, brothers Wayne and Loyal, sisters, Edythe Grace Palarni and Pearle Bonner, and son David Wayne. A viewing will be held today, Wednesday, January 29 at the Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen 3:00 - 8:00 PM with family present between 6:00 and 8:00. The funeral will follow on Thursday 10 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church in McAllen, and burial will be at 1:00 PM at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be sent to Rotary International. Kreidlerfuneralhome.com Sign the guest book at www.themonitor.com/obituaries
