I first met Gary when I was his mailman and we started chatting. He would apologize for all the magazines that he got monthly to which I let him know that it was not a problem for me. He was such a caring person that you immediately warmed up to him. I once told him that I was going to be in an art show and to my surprise he showed up at opening night. He rushed into the exhibition, did a quick 360 and immediately came up to me and told me which piece that he wanted to purchase. Gary became one of my best patrons and I think a close friend. I will dearly miss you Gary especially our get togethers and the long talks. I love you buddy.

It has been almost 3 months since our dear
friend Gary passed away. I just haven't been
able to put into words how sad I am and how
much I miss him. The 20 year association is
having a wine-tasting outing and I thought
Gary would have just loved going to that.
He was a wonderful and loyal friend. However,I know he is up in heaven organizing St.Peter and the Angel chorus just as he managed us lowly mortals here on earth!
God Bless!

Gary, being your neighbour for over 12 years was truly a blessing. As I had told you over and over you are the "best neighbour ever". I was shocked that your illness took you away so quickly. We will truly miss you lots. Maureen and Steven, 7 Mackenzie Crescent, Toronto
Grateful for knowing You!

Dear Gary Gilfillan,
We enjoyed your warm touch in our contact with you, and were saddened by your passing on to another reality.
Your eclectic choice from my work in visual art for your collection, always cheered me up.The works now are in another collection of a new and highly appreciated friend and collector.I am sure you have helped this to happen in mysterious ways. Will remember You until I join you in the great beyond.

While most might think of Gary in Toronto, I remember Gary visiting our acreage here in British Columbia. He seemed so at home, feeding the chickens, turning the garden, cooking, cleaning. He really put all his effort into eveything he did and was always eager to help out. I also remember the hours he spent writing postcards to all his friends.

A gentle instructor for AD's, on air talent, and those searching for appropriate music - Gary welcomed questions, and discussion. Always polite and interested in what others had going on in their lives, Gary demonstrated the care he felt through his on-going committment to the EAP even through his retirement. We were blessed to have worked with him!

Gary, over the years we worked on many a CBC show together. But my best recollections come from working with you on the Toronto committee of the Employee Assistance Programme. Thank you for all the time you gave to the committee and for your sincere caring for others. Blessings, my friend.

I too, was sadden to learn of the passing of Gary. I have nothing but fond memories of a very kind, patient, joyful man who brought a lot of cheer to those around him. I bet he'll be meeting up with Barbara (and many, many others) in a better place.

Just wanted to add our thoughts from the Moss family. From the time I was 5 as a child actor until I worked with Gary when I was a studio director and director Gary was always interested in what Alfie's kids were doing. It was great to have such a wonderful time and he will be remembered by the Moss midgets as he called us as someone we grew up knowing and working with.

What a surprise that he had died! A short while back he was enjoying live jazz at Quotes, telling stories about the songs and intimating that there was always a little more that he would tell you about later... Now, there's no later, and it feels like someone tore down the library. "It's been good to know ya", Gary.

Gary was one of the kindest people I have ever met. If you were ill, he would send you a card, if you were down in the dumps, he had a card for that on hand to send to you to cheer you up.

Gary Gilfillan was a freelance director's dream Floor Manager (AD). My years on the Wayne & Shuster Specials were made easier by Gary's wonderful appreciation of what frustrations can happen on a Big Budget show with a limited SHOOT time.
His biting wit, insightful observations and cheerful enthusiasm made up for the cumulative angst that seemed to grow during each taping session.
Gary had a terrific working style with actors, musicians, crew members and itinerant directors as well. He made my transition from private TV to Mother Corp. comfortable and fun.
He will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune to work alongside or be in his delightful company. He was a true ray of sunshine and positive reinforcement at all times.

Gary was a kind, caring, generous friend to many. When we retired from CBC Television we found we had more time together to share our love of music. He became my "jazz buddy". He also became the brother I had never had. Rest in peace, dear Gary, and know I love you.

After twenty odd years of working with Gary at the CBC, and the last fifteen years of retirement with Gary as a best friend both to me and my wife, Carroll, I can only say that the world has lost one of the kindest, sweetest and most generous people I have ever met. Thank you for inviting me to your internment and for letting me say the last words for you. I will always carry the memory of you and your wonderful enjoyment of music, love of the business and undying friendship in my heart. Thank you for being my friend.

Gary lived across the road from my family from the time I was about 6 to 15, the Wonder Years times! He was a gentle sensitive happy person. We did not keep in touch after I moved away so I was happy to learn of this obituary. The world is emptier because of his death but heaven holds one more friend.

I worked with Gary at CBC for many years. He was the Music Consultant for most of the shows we did on Sunday Arts Entertainment. He had a very sensitive ear when it came to music and a great love and knowledge of it. He was filled with stories of his amazing career and all the wonderful people he had met in the heyday of the CBC. He cared about the people who worked at CBC. His years of work with EAP were an indication of that, even after he retired. It was always wonderful to see him again at those events. I shall miss him.
