Born March 14, 1929, in Cades, SC, she was a daughter of the late Eleida Parrott Nexsen and Leland Ivey Nexsen. She was one of 13 children.
Mrs. Burrows was a member of New Salem Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina-School of Nursing and had retired as a child health nurse from the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). She recently received her 50-year pin for membership in the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) where she served as Worthy Matron and Esther.
She was a loving wife to F.C. for more than 63 years. She demonstrated her Christianity through her dedication to her husband, children, family, neighbors, and friends; teaching of Sunday school; visits to the sick and shut-in; nursing career; and service to the OES. Her kindness, gentleness and love for others will live on in those who were blessed to know her.
Mrs. Burrows is survived by her husband; two sons, Mike Burrows, Wayne (Barbara) Burrows, and one daughter, Cheryl Burrows Davids, all of Sumter; five grandchildren, Robert (Brandi) Burrows, Rebecca (Bubba Preast) Burrows, Clint (Erin) Burrows, Bridgett Burrows and Alivia Burrows Davids; seven great-grandchildren, Madison, Michael, Baylor, Brogan, Rhett, Abigail and Brooke; three sisters, Alma Nexsen, Mary Sue (Mike) Hewitt and Betty Lou Culick; three brothers, Paul (Diane) Nexsen, Billy (Wanda) Nexsen, and Junior (Lizzie) Nexsen; three sisters-in-law, Iva Lee (Jack) Whitcomb, Argie Hudson, Vernell (Harold) James; one brother-in-law, Dargen Burrows; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter in-law, Roberta Mims Burrows; four brothers, Vardell, Sam, Leland and James Nexsen; and two sisters, Lucille Nexsen Disher and Margaret Nexsen Disher.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Sim Smith officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Clint Burrows, Robert Burrows, Tony Culick, Elias Preast, Sid Singleton, William Singleton Jr., Marty Trickett and Dave Watt.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 10, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to New Salem Baptist Church, 2500 W. Oakland Avenue, Sumter, SC 29154, the American Heart Association, the American Kidney Foundation, Christian Family Services Adoption Agency, or to a charity of one's choice.
