M.L. Kirtley Obituary

died suddenly of a heart attack at 64 years of age. Husband, son, brother, father, step-father, uncle, he will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by wife, Mary; mother, Maxine; children, Rivka, Jessica, Amanda and James; grandchildren Roxanne and Daxton; his best four-legged bud Jake; a large extended family and many, many friends. Late in life Mike found the work that he loved, substance abuse counseling. He joined old friends working at Crossroads Residential Treatment Center and was dedicated to the residents. He loved music and singing, often substituting his own lyrics. He loved telling stories and talking to people. He would go for walk-abouts, coming home with tales about who he met and what they talked about. He had a wonderful sense of adventure and saw the humor in all things. Mike had a strong sense of fair play and always stood up for the underdog. He was loyal, fearless and had a big, big heart. Every morning Mike would open the door and say, "Hello world, here I come." "May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, May the rains fall soft upon your fields, And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand" Please sign the guest book at www.Times-Standard.com, click obits.

As you go through life you sometimes have an opportunity to meet someone you will always remember with a smile. Mike was one of those people. He would make you smile or make you think or just entertain you in general. So, when you think of Mike, remember to smile, because you had the opportunity to know someone very special indeed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Mike truly was a great man with a passion for music, laughter, the people he helped and life. I remember sitting with him and talking about music trivia, he always spoke fondly of his wife Mary, his children, and of his four legged friends. It was such an honor to get to work with such a man of integrity...you will be truly missed Mike.

Mike sure loved to tell stories--especially those including himself and Patrick. I completely enjoyed listening to Mike tell his stories. Mike, as I remember, loved to laugh and had a wealth of information when it came to trivia involving music. I will greatly miss Mike. Mary, my heart goes out to you.

Mike had a calm, healing demeanor, and at the same time he could keep order amongst the chaos created by those struggling with life. He and I shared a common love of our four legged dog friends. I picture him playing with the many canines he loved over the years. Mike spoke often of the love he had for Mary and his adult children. I wish his family the best during this time. It is a loss for all of us.
