Well Ted, It will be two years tomorrow since you left. Still seems like just yesterday. Time sure does pass by too quickly. Everyone still misses you a great deal and we all know that you are watching over everyone and keeping everyone safe.

Linda and family...I was not aware of Ted's passing until just this afternoon. Living so far away unfortunately has it's disadvantages. Well Ted its been 1 year since you left. You would not beleive the changes that the fire department has made. Not only Albany, but surrounding departments as well. What had happened was an eye opener for all. On a good note, GIANTS are the champs....12 to 1 to win it next year. Continue to watch over your family and your brother fireman.

Big Ted - time truly does not make this easier. It is Christmas time and that was always your time. You must be so proud - your wife and children carried the torch and put up all your decorations exactley the way you always wanted them to be. Please accept our sincere condolences on your tragic loss. My father, Howard R. Schmitt, Sr., was an AFD member as well and lost his life unexpectedly as well in the line of duty in 1993. I knew Teddy and his father both when I was younger and came to the city with my Dad. Firefighters give tirelessly of themselves day after day and no words can express the appreciation and gratitude we feel in knowing they keep us safe from harm while putting themselves into danger time and again without thought to their own safety. I tend to judge people on how they are with children, mine in particular. When we were kids, Michele and I used play in the basement and she would answer the phones in the fire chief's office and I would be the police dispatcher. We were proud then of our father's and families' service and we still are. Sammy has a fire hat and vest now and he plays fireman all the time. Yesterday he wore his hat around the house to be "like Teddy."

Rescue squad members will always hold a special place in my heart as this elite unit has set the mark for all other fire units to strive for today and tomorrow.

Please accept our condolences. Bob and I were shocked to hear of Ted's passing. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers. The Albany Firefighters were wonderful to our family when my mother passed away suddenly last year. I know that Ted was very brave and very special. God Bless your family.
