Ted,
I need a favor, My brother has come to join you. I have to admit, I am not thrilled with God's plan to want you guys so young and to take them from us so soon, but I guess someday that will be clear to me. David always thought you were a class act and a great firefighter. Please keep a look out for him, as i am sure he wants to be around old friends. Thanks John

Linda and family...I was not aware of Ted's passing until just this afternoon. Living so far away unfortunately has it's disadvantages. Please know that you and the family are in my thoughts and prayers. The people of the Capital District were so lucky to have such a brave man on their side. It would be great to hear from you. Take care.

Well Ted its been 1 year since you left. You would not beleive the changes that the fire department has made. Not only Albany, but surrounding departments as well. What had happened was an eye opener for all. On a good note, GIANTS are the champs....12 to 1 to win it next year. Continue to watch over your family and your brother fireman.

Big Ted - time truly does not make this easier. It is Christmas time and that was always your time. You must be so proud - your wife and children carried the torch and put up all your decorations exactley the way you always wanted them to be. That is a real credit to both Linda and yourself as your children integrated the lessons you both taught them.

To The Abriel Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathy upon just learning of your great loss.
I first met Ted about 10 years ago at one of the many fire shows, he with Firefighters Embroidery, and I with David Clark Company. We spent many a night at these shows over the years enjoying each other's company over dinner and adult beverages. He was such a great individual. I will truly miss Ted and he will missed by all that knew him.
Respectfully,

To the entire Abriel Family:
Please accept our sincere condolences on your tragic loss. My father, Howard R. Schmitt, Sr., was an AFD member as well and lost his life unexpectedly as well in the line of duty in 1993. I knew Teddy and his father both when I was younger and came to the city with my Dad. Firefighters give tirelessly of themselves day after day and no words can express the appreciation and gratitude we feel in knowing they keep us safe from harm while putting themselves into danger time and again without thought to their own safety. May you find comfort in your memories and in knowing he is finally safe with God and other loved ones already lost. God Bless you all.

To The Abriel Family-
We are deeply saddened by the loss of fellow firefighter Teddy. Both my husband and I had the pleasure of getting to know him. He was a wonderful, kind man and will be missed by many. I tend to judge people on how they are with children, mine in particular. He was always patient and understanding when my children riffled through his piles of tshirts; he helped them mess the shirts up! I take comfort in knowing that Teddy is up there watching over us on our next alarm. God Bless.

Someone Privelidged to Have Known Your Family
February 25, 2007
Dear Linda,
Unconditional love. You and Ted defined it for your family, your friends, your community and even for people you have never met. As a friend, we have always known you both would be there without question. Together you were a very strong and very special couple, and exemplary parents. I pray you are able to draw upon that strength to get yourself and your children through this unfair ordeal. The world is a much poorer place without Ted. If you and your children can draw upon the knowledge that he is watching over you and if you can find his strength in your hearts, then you will continue and find happiness as you carry on as you always have...with love, and make the difference in this world that Ted and his family have always made. Linda, you and his children can continue your legacy of love and kindness because it is what you are and you are blessed.
With Love,
Allison & Sebastian Banks and Family

A FIREFIGHTER'S
PRAYER
When I am called to duty, God
Whenever flames may rage,
Give me the strength to save some life
Whatever be its age,
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person from
The horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert and
Hear the weakest shout
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out
I want to fill my calling and
To give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor and
Protect his property
And if according to my fate
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your
protecting hand
My children and my wife.
Teddy, Your bravery and dedication will live on forever in the hearts of all of your Firefighting family. May you rest in peace.

We just wanted you to know that we were greatly shocked and deeply saddened when we heard about Ted. Mickey and P.J. both called us within minutes of each other to tell us the news. Michele, Mary Theresa and Warren:
When we were kids, Michele and I used play in the basement and she would answer the phones in the fire chief's office and I would be the police dispatcher. We were proud then of our father's and families' service and we still are. Sammy has a fire hat and vest now and he plays fireman all the time. Yesterday he wore his hat around the house to be "like Teddy."
I was saddened to hear the news of "uncle Teddy's" death. On behalf of myself, my mother, father and Kristen and her family, we express our deepest sympathy and have valued your friendship for the past 25 years.
