Anthony P. Bertin, 81, of Deerfield, died on Friday, December 9, 2011, in the warmth and comfort of his home with loved ones by his side. The son of the late Antonio and Ines Mion Bertin, Tony was born in New York City and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, NY. In 1951, he graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following his Army service as a member of the Signal Corps in Korea, Tony moved to Utica and was employed by the General Electric Company. In May 1958, Tony married Eleanore Bonacci at Blessed Sacrament Church. They made their home in Utica and Deerfield. A man of integrity and purpose, he worked in various positions and retired from General Electric Company in 1992 as Project Manager. He was an active member of the Elfin Society, a member of Historic Old St. John's Church, and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Tony's first love was family, then his home. His hobbies included gardening (great vegetables), hunting, deep-sea fishing and cheering for the NY Giants. He was an avid bridge player who planned his schedule around the Thursday Bridge Group. His love of reading and history led Tony and his wife to travel extensively during his retirement, but they always loved to return to "Home Sweet Home". He had treasured memories of all of his friends and activities, and Tony's children and grandsons were his greatest source of pride. Tony is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Eleanore; two daughters, Lisa (Robert) Freeman, Lancaster, PA, and Ellie (Nicholas) Colucci, Westfield, NJ; as well as five grandsons, Nicholas Leonard Colucci, Washington, DC, Alex Bertin Colucci, Middlebury College, Vermont, John Thomas Colucci, Colgate University, Christopher Robert and Andrew Bertin Freeman, Lancaster, PA. He is also survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Johanna Bonacci Albrecht and Henry Albrecht, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday (today), December 11, from 2-4 p.m. at Nunn & McGrath Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Historic Old St. John's Church, 240 Bleecker St., Utica.
