NEW BRAUNFELS, TX. - Barbara Lee Christensen, age 77; of New Braunfels, TX (having recently moved from Rancho Viejo, TX), passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012, after an unexpected illness.
Born January 6, 1935 in Maysville, KY to Norma Stout and Nelson Browning, Barbara married Louis M. Christensen Jr. on June 23, 1955 and celebrated fifty-two years of marriage with him. During this time she lived in Toledo and Columbus OH; New Orleans, LA; Atlanta, GA; and Dallas, Houston, and Rancho Viejo, TX. She traveled Europe, Australia and the Caribbean - and especially loved spending time with her husband in St. Maarten. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Barbara enjoyed giving dinner parties, decorating, golf, and playing gin rummy with her husband. (She was ahead at last count!)
She is survived by her daughter Debi Christensen and son-in law Stephen Howell (and their children Michael Howell and Meghann Howell), Jon Christensen and daughter-in-law Judi Christensen (and their son Shayne Christensen), and Erik Christensen and daughter-in-law Lisa Marie Christensen (and Erik's daughter Siobhan Christensen). Barbara is predeceased by her parents, by her son Louis Martin Christensen III, and by her husband Louis Martin Christensen Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in San Marcos, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners' Children's Hospitals.
The Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, TX is handling all arrangements.

Barbara and Lou were very good friends of myself and my husband. We own the Seafarer Restaurant in Harlingen. I first met Lou when I worked for Continental Airlines. He was a frequent customer, as was Barbara. They use to come and eat and we would trade travel stories. We had many fun times together. Barbara use to bring her mom to eat there as well. I have very fond memories of Barbara and Lou. My condolences to your family for your loss
