I am so sorry to hear about Al's passing. I worked with Al up until he retired more than 20 years ago. He is one of the most remarkable people I have ever known. I admired his discipline and his ability to make the best of any situation. From some of the stories he told me, I could see how he was able to do this. He always had time to speak with people and could discuss a variety of subjects. After he retired, he would come to the Plaza about once a month to go out to lunch with a few of the attorneys who were still in Home Office. Before doing that, Al would come to my department and visit with me for a few minutes. We would talk about travel, things Italian, history, and general things with life and family. For me it was special that Al would remember me and seek me out for those visits. Those times passed too quickly.
The world is a small place. A number of years ago I was riding my bicycle through the park. Another cyclist pulled up next to me at a traffic light and we rode with each other for a bit, trading places leading and following. This cyclist was in great shape so it was a bit of a challenge for me. We struck up a conversation and introduced ourselves. He and I shared the same first names, “Robert.” As we talked more and compared notes, he told me that he was visiting his folks. We discussed our vocations and he mentioned that his father worked for a major insurer before retiring several years before. I asked Robert what company his father worked for and replied, “GEICO,” which is where I work. Upon further discussion, I asked Robert for his father's name and he told me “Al Tysen.” Wow I thought and I exclaimed that we worked together! I told Robert how much I liked and admired his Dad and what amazing person he was. I do not know if that little bicycle ride is remembered but for me it was a moment to remember and a connection.
To Al's family, I know how much you will miss him as I sit here writing and thinking about my Mom I lost not too long ago. Keep him in your hearts and remember some funny stories that you undoubtedly have and he will never really be “gone.” I am blessed to have known Al Tysen and I will always consider him one of my heroes that I look up to in life. Again, my deepest sympathies to the Tysen family.

Angela, I was so sad to hear of Al 's death. Even though I did not know him well or for very long, I will always remember his wonderful smile. May he rest in peace.

To the Tysons family. I am sorry to learn of Al's passing. I know it hard to lose a parent no matter what age or reason. I have known and worked with Al since the 1980's. He was one of my favorite people at GEICO. He had an intersting life. I also enjoyed the many talks we had. Al was one the good guys on this earth. God Rest his soul.

I worked with Al at Geico. Many of us thought Al was eternal since he never seemed to age. I hope he kept that vigor through his last days. My sympathies to his family at his passing

Al and I go back to the late 1950s and 1960s in the GEICO Claim Department, which I left in the 1970s to become the Corporate Secretary of GEICO. Al was one of the finest men I ever knew. He will be missed very much. Unfortunately, my health is poor and I will be unable to attend the funeral. He will be in my prayers, however.

I worked with Al at GEICO for many years. He was always extremely conscientious and expected the best from himself. Occasionally he came into the building after his retirement and stopped by to say "Hello". I hope he enjoyed his last years on earth.
