I just finished the book, Brothers Forever. As a mother, I cried for the mothers of Travis Manion & Brendan Looney. I love this country & the sacrifices that our troops make for our freedoms as well as the sacrifices each & every family makes is deeply appreciated. What extraordinary young men they were. They are the true example of what this country stands for. Thank you for your sacrifice & may the hand of God always be with your loved ones. Please know you both will never be forgotten

My son Josh, plays golf for the University of Arkansas. He will be honored to have the bag representing Brendan in the Patriot All-American Invitational Golf Tournament. Growing up in Crofton, he requested a Naval Academy grad with Maryland ties. I have spoken with him and he is grateful to be able to honor Brendan and his sacrifice for our Country in this small way. Thank you, Ron Eure

To Amy and the Looney family:
We only learned of Brendan's death a few days ago. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy. May the Peace of the Lord be with you.
We knew Brendan only slightly. He was a year ahead of our son at
DeMatha. Both were football players. Brendan was on the varsity
while our son was on the freshman and JV teams. But even knowing
Brendan a little bit was to be deeply impressed.
Even before we knew Brendan was to attend the Naval Academy, I thought he would make a superb Marine officer and told him so one
night in the Stag Room. Though Brendan chose the Navy over the
Marines, he was all that "a leader of men" can hope to be. Few civilians understand the responsibility an officer has when he leads
men in battle, or the courage and dedication it takes to fulfill that responsibility.
We are proud to have known Brendan, and grateful for his service to
our nation.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Brendan will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Lt. Brendan Looney our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Brendan. And to Brendan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Brendan, you are a brave sailor, a Patriot Warrior and a true Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,353 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Brendan’s family and loved ones.

To Amy and all of the Looney family-
Although we have never met I feel I know you through the words of Lindsey and Colin Finnegan (my daughter and son in law). The stories shared about Brendan were as amusing as they were awe inspiring. He touched so many and will always be a part of the lives of those he touched. An example to follow, may every one of us rise up to his expectations and carry on his dreams.
God bless all of you

Yesterday was the funeral for PO2 Adam O. Smith, my cousin, who also died in the same helicopter crash that took the lives of Lt. Looney and seven others. These nine were truly exceptional men. As I research further it seems to me that it would be appropriate for a book to be written about these men. The outpouring of respect that was shown to Adam by the residents of the two small adjoining towns in which he was born and raised was incredible. They lined the streets of the procession from the church, town, and five miles of state highway to the cemetery. They waved large and small flags and held home- made signs of support. Approximately 300 Honor Guard riders led the way and made sure no protesters were heard. Missouri Govenor Nixon attended the family visitation. Highest ranking Naval officers plus apx. 25 Navy Seals were also present. There can be no doubt of the pride and patriotism our nation feels for all our men who serve to protect the USA. Our condolences to Brendan's family.

Hello Amy
We have never met not sure if you know of me, I was one of Brendan’s coach’s when he was younger and a friend of Kevin’s & Mo’s that live in Calvert County, Clay Sunderland. I and many young men and women were proud to have known him and are better for it. As a young man Brendan had a burning ember inside of him & athletic ability that not many have but he did. That when he walked on to an athletic field to be the best he could be and it showed, you always want a 100% for all your players you got 120% and a leader with Brendan.
He set the bar for his teammates around him and my players over the years to try and match and achieve not many did. He got this from his dad Kevin and mom Mo which the nurtured from a burning ember to a shinning star. Brendan had many friends here in Calvert County and I’m sure made many more at DeMatha, Naval Academy, at Home and Afghanistan.
I was proud to have know Brendan, as were all of his teammates on the athletic field and the field of life, PROUD is a special word ask his sisters & brothers, Kevin & Mo. But if you want the real answer ask his Grandparent’s what PROUD is.
Our sympathy is with the Lonney Family & may the Lord be with you Brendan

"The flow of life is like a stream. Death is merely another bend in the river. As of now , you cannot see around the bend. But we have gone around it. We have moved on into the ocean."
"When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain....So you are in anguish now. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you." (Jn. 16:21-22)
