Missing Chappys smile!

The picture of Chappy standing next to a friend as they go through boxes of comics is a gem. Is the date and location where the picture was taken known? (Or the name of the person standing next to Chappy?)

Chappy was my best friend at Walter Johnson HS along with Bill Kenneke. We we were the "Tack Team" at the ice skating rink and kept in touch till 2010 when he moved Phily. I'm watching an 80s rewind concert which prompted me to search his name to discover he passed. What a shock! We would connect occasionally and it was like we just spoke the other day. I am really sad right now. Mark Cumberpatch 4432050693

Chappy and our son Bill were good friends from Grosvenor Elem. school, North Bethesda Jr Hi and Walter Johnson HS. It was always a joy to have Chappy come to our house as you could always count on his sense of humor to lighten your day. I remember one time when he and Bill rode their bikes to a restaurant where they had an "all you can eat" offer. When they came back I asked them how they had enjoyed it. They said the owner wasn't too happy with them as they had eaten 32 chicken pieces between them.
That was definitely our laugh for the day. Chappy made this old world a better place and will be missed.

I met Chappy his first day at Roy Rogers and because of his personality and humor, we became instant friends. He had a fantastic sense of humor and was one of the few people who could make me laugh. I mean really laugh, milk through the nose, tears in the eyes laugh! His humor was never degrading of others and was usually directed at himself.
I always admired his intelligence and work ethic. Few people could have overcome the obstacles life threw at him and come back so well. His generosity was overwhelming. Even when he didn’t have enough for himself, he was always willing to help someone who he considered a friend. Chappy was a groomsman at my wedding on June 29 1985. On Wednesday of last week 26 years seemed such a long time ago. On Thursday I realized it had passed much, much too quickly.
Chappy you are a true and dear friend – I pray that you are at rest in God’s loving arms and I look forward to seeing you on the last day. Rest in Peace my Friend.

I worked with Chappy ntil a few weeks ago when he started not feeling well. It's so tragic to see how quickly someone can be taken away. He was respected and admired by many loyal guests that he was glad to call friends. Not a day went by that a gest didn't ask about him or wonder when he would be working next. We had alot of laughs together behind the bar, and he is and will always be greatly missed!

Worked with Chappy at his restaurant LSF, Natl Airport. Yes, his restaurant...the rest of us were just guests. We had patrons that would miss flights waiting to get a seat on "short side"...Chappy's side. Famous people, the likes of Tim Russert, Tom Brokaw, John Walsh saw Chappy as the celebrity not the other way around. It was Chappy's way or the high way...sometimes that went against him, but he didn't care. Honest, flamboyant, full of personality, LL Cool Chap... We'll miss you buddy...you went to soon. To all his family, I hope you know the joy he put in so many people's lives; he's a legend and will NEVER be forgotten.

I knew Chappy over 30 years ago myself when we were co-workers (along w/ Stu) at Roy Rogers. Chappy had an infectious sense of humor and could always be counted on to bring a smile to anyone's face. I was very sad to learn of his passing.

He was my uncle, but since he was only 3 years older than me, I always felt he was the big brother I never had. When we were kids, I remember he had a newspaper route. That influenced me as I also eventually had my own paper route. I just always seemed to look up to Chappy as a role model in my life when it came to his work ethic and how he treated people. His passing was devastating news to me even though I knew he had pancreatic cancer. You just never are prepared for news like this. As I write this, it is still hard to believe he is actually gone. God only knows how much I will miss the numerous phone calls we would have with each other almost every week the past 18 months.

I saw the notice in this morning's paper; I am very sorry for your loss. Chappy and I were very good friends and co-workers more than 30 years ago and sadly I lost touch over time.
