I just learned of Dan's passing and I am so very sorry. I worked with Dan at Defense Logistics Agency and so admired him and enjoyed working with him. My heartfelt sympathy to Linda and his family at this sad time.

What a sad shock! I visited him in the hospital after his heart surgery, and he seemed to be recuperating nicely, but now he is gone. I will surely miss Dan! I worked with him at the Naval Air Systems Command starting in 1984 and then later at the Defense Logistics Agency, where he was one of the Transportation Specialists, until his retirement. In addition to his family, I know some of the things that he held dear to him included his status as an Archbishop Carroll HS alumni, his active & reserve service in Naval Aviation (including the Cuban missile crisis), his love of flying and maintaining small aircraft (the local flying club), and various aspects of railroads. During the past decade, Dan enjoyed working numerous trips as Car Attendant in my private railroad car MOUNT VERNON, traveling across the USA and up into Canada. Rest in peace, shipmate, and thanks for the memories!

I was shocked to hear of Dan's death. I just talked to him at the Carroll Bull Roast. He was a terrific Carroll alum, supportive in every way possible. We will all miss him greatly. May God give him eternal rest.

I will truely miss my Uncle Dan. His sense of humor was one of kind just like him. I will miss the donald duck voice, silly handshakes, great one liners and jokes. After reading all the posts I feel even more blessed that I grew up with this man in my life. He will be missed so much words cannot descibe. I love you Uncle Dan

My deepest sympathies to Dan's family at this time of great personal loss. I have known Dan as a friend since being assigned to Naval Air Reserve Patrol Squadron, VP-661 in 1961. I shall cherish a CD by the Lions of Bluegrass, which Dan gave to me during our last meeting at Deale MD. Email will never be the same without the frequent exchanges between us. RIP my friend

So sorry to hear about Dan. We will miss him greatly at the airport as he was always stopping by to say hello. It was a pleasure to have had he and the band play at our Open House in September. I remember what he said when we asked if they would play...."I've been around airports and music all my life but have never played music at an airport"...so I said "we would love to have you"....and he gladly accepted after talking it over with the rest of the band members...they were wonderful! Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Dan's.
God Bless you all and R.I.P. Dan....

Dan was, by far, one of my best friends, and flying buddies. He was very talented, and dedicated to CFC, to an exemplary degree. He loved his family, and cared often for Jamie and Joey, his grandkids. He was a fine, decent, very talented man. We both served in USNaval Aviation in Patrol Squadrons, mostly in P2Vs. As an excellent musician (Bass fiddle), and airplane repairman, he was equal or better than any.
I will sorely miss him!!

My wife and I are deeply moved at the news of Dan's passng. We loved Dan for all his wisdom and character. He was the backbone of our clan and like all the members of his family he carried the knowledge and forsight of a true family leader. May you be blessed by GOD and rest eternally in his care. We love you Dan.

I was shocked and saddened today to learn of Dan's passing. I pray for consolation for the Hayes family.
I loved his music and his storys, learned much from him in the maintenance hangar, and tried to emulate his near-perfect landings.
I will miss Dan. Sam

My heart is broken. I will cherish the memories of all the good times and too few shared flights with Dan. He was a very special individual. As Proverb 27:21 says , A man is valued by what others say of him. Dan was priceless. We shall miss him greatly and our prayers and thoughts are with the family as you continue without our very special friend.
