DONALD WALKER Obituary

DONALD B. WALKER
Of Olney, MD departed this life on Saturday, September 7, 2013. Survived by his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Walker; daughters, Sheree and Jody; grandchildren, Jameelah, John and Jason; and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, Ronald (Justine) and Paul (Felecia); sisters-in-law, Glenda Walker and Donna Williams; aunts Glenda and Gilda Walker; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Visitation, 9 a.m. until time of service, 11 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2013 at Resurrection Baptist Church, 900 Ednor Road, Silver Spring, MD 20906. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Happy belated Pops!

I have a son now... You'd love him! He's round and brown. Just as sweet as can be. I miss you so. I try not to think about it because it makes me so sad... I'm working on getting to the point where I can mention your name and just be ok in the memory. I admit I'm not there yet tho. For now, I take solace in my babies looking away from me randomly to "space," assuming that they see you, their guardian angel over my shoulder. I wish you could have met them Pops. I promise to teach them about you.

Uncle Donald,
I want to wish you a Happy Birthday. I have been avoiding this for years, the thought of you not being with us anymore always brings me to tears. But I know if you were sitting across from me, you would say "Hey Myla, It's okay. I had a good life and a beautiful wife, and I am resting in the arms of the Father now". I miss when I would come to visit you and Aunt Shirley and you would sit in your favorite chair. You always had so much positivity and inspiration to speak into my life. You always looked for the good in everyone and made sure you pointed it out to them. God gave you one of the purest hearts I have ever seen or heard. You have made such a lasting impression in so many of our lives Uncle Donald. Your memory will last forever. No on will ever take your place in our hearts or our lives. My Aunt Shirley had and still has the best husband ever. Because I know you will always be with her. I will always love you my dear Uncle Donald.

P.S. You would love this new coffee that I am drinking. Its better than starbucks. You know we always liked the good stuff. LOL

Pops,
What's up pops it's been a while but, as you know your missed & thought of everyday plus the love for you never goes away in fact I find my self doing things now that you showed, taught or even jus told me funny huh? I'm still hanging there up& down as usual but you know how we do never let'em see you sweat and give it your best. The kids are growing tremendously as expected willow is 11 and as big as a giant and jahlil is 8 and isn't far behind on size as well. Doing good in school but could be doing much better I guess they get that from me even tho there smart as a whip. In sports the Redskins haven't been doing much hopefully this year will be the year, The Capitals won the Stanley cup in hockey not sure if your big hockey fan but, the home team brought the championship home can't go wrong wit that and the Nationals have been doing good but always seems to fall short. What else... Oh I moved out finally I gotta a lil spot it's cool convenient fits me but, I need more space the kids getting to big. I work all the time now too much if you ask me I'm painting cars now it's actually not bad and there's a lot of money to be made it's jus hard work. Still trying hit the mega million also or power ball on top of the pick 3 or 4 you know how that lottery thing go lol. I think I touched on everything over the years you know I mind my bidness and stay off the radar the family good also Millow baby cute as all out outdoors and you know she going be a smart as they come Trey had a son also and that's pretty much it I think... Your always forever loved & missed hope to see you again one day pops I love you.

Hey Pops well its been a year to date since you passed so I just thought I would fill you in on whats been going on. First I would like to say I love you and miss you and think about you everyday the family misses you also but Im sure you know. Well its football season and the Redskins well they Look like Redskins they went 3-13 last year so there's not much to say about that and they lost today but season is just starting. The Nationals are doing good they went 96-66 last season and are 79-61 this season so that is good news on the sports side. Me I'm fine the kids are getting bigger an smarter everyday they talk about or ask me questions about you all the time but you know kids say anything. I'm in school now also hvac class at Montgomery college its kind of tough no lie. I'm still going to court dodging cases like always you know me lol But for real I'm just trying to keep my head above water and give it my best cause that's all I got. Well that's pretty much it for me pop I love and miss you I'll talk to you soon

Hey Pops its been a year to date since you passed away So i just thought I let you know whats been going on, but first let me say I love& miss you and so does the family I think about you all the time but I'm sure already know. The Redskins went 3-13 last season I don't thinks there is much I can say about that but season in starting now and the Skins well they look like the Skins they lost today but we'll see how season goes. The Nationals were good last year they were 99-66 and this year there 79-61 so that is some good news on the sport world. I'm doing o.k I think about you all the time and hope your happy and doing well. I'm in Hvac school now at Montgomery college its pretty tough no lie, I'm still going to court everyday and dodging time you know me lol. The kids are doing alright getting bigger each day and smarter they talk about you all the time to be honest but you know kid say anything. Well that's pretty much it with me pops I'm just trying to keep my head above water and do my best cause that's all I can do take care pops talk to you soon. I love you

Today is Grandparents' day... it's ironic that this year it lands on the anniversary of your passing. Pops, I miss you so much. A man of great faith. Shirley and Donald always believed and taught us how to live by God's faith.

I had a problem, and just couldn't find my way out. Donald talk to me and advised me to keep the faith. download was very effective and threw his faith my obligations were fulfilled. Donald was blessed throughout his life with a loving wife Shirley. Faithfully, God blessed Donald with everything he contributed his life to. Faithfully let us remember a great man thru his fellowship, duties in life and his leadership.

Lets us pray and remember him in life for the joy he brought to his community, church and people.

When I read the bible and see how God Sent angels to people that they my strengthen them in time of need, I think of Mr. Walker. He would say to me stay strong, your blessing is coming, God have not for gotten you. I miss Mr. Walker and I do believe that the Holy Spirit would send him to say that to me, because it would be right on time when he says it. Wow how devastated I was when I learned of his passing. He was a nice, peaceful man who always wore a smile. A friend who helped me when I needed him and for that I am so grateful. Shirley as I shared with you when we talked he was more than a husband to you he was your best friend. I could see the love and admiration between the two of you. Donald was very special to you and to me. I am thankful for having him bless my life for the season he was here. I will truly miss him. Donald and I grew up together, when to school together, and played ball together. He was a true friend, and was like my brother. I can never forget him, constantly hitting ground balls to me, over and over again, to help me improve my skills as a baseball player. Donald had the talent and skill to be a Major League pitcher, and every time that I would watch Edwin Jackson pitch for the Washington Nationals, it brought me memories of what should have been his name to fame. I tried so much to get him to come down to Miami with me, so sure that it would lead to the ticket to the big leagues. Of course, it never happened. I always thought, what a waste of talent, but he was working at the post office at the time, and it was not practical for him to leave. Donald, you were a true friend, I'm always thinking of you, even though we have not spoken with each other recently, and you will never be forgotten! Rest in peace!

Quite alive in our memories, was Donald's infinite generosity--a man who gave so freely of himself, asking nothing in return. We think of him often, particularly, driving (with Shirley) every day for TWO WEEKS STRAIGHT!!, from Olney, MD to N.W., DC, staying from morning past dusk, to help us paint and clean a 3 story house that belonged in a horror story. Never asking for and refusing to accept a penny, Donald (Shirley, too) pitched in as if the house was theirs. Never, alone, could we have completed the house in the time required. We remember most, two, humongous mirrors, filthy brown and completely lightless, that Donald, quietly disappearing for a long while, cleaned to a Sunday morning shine. All one sees now when looking into those mirrors is, simply, their reflection -- never once imagining a man's kind and humble fingers, quietly, diligently working, to bring their darkness to light. That is what we felt when Donald (Shirley, too) helped us during that terrible, didn't know how we were going to get through it, time--an impossible darkness yielding to light. Thank you, so much, Donald. We are still so grateful. We will never forget you. Our love...Gwen & Joe Sherrod.

Great guy, I've known him for nearly sixty years. He always had a ready smile. i never heard a cross or evil word come out of his mouth. Blessed are the peacemakers. I truly liked him and marveled as seemed to become an even better person as he got older. One of the mainstays from the "Down-Street Team," We just couldn't have a good game no matter what we were playing without booth the Twins.
