Dear Hutchinson Family,
It has been 42 years since I permanently left University United Methodist Church. After I got married and had children we visited back there periodically whenever we were in town, as long as my parents, Earnest and Irene Walker, were living in College Park. The choir director would let me sing in the choir on my visits and that was mostly how I knew your parents. Also your dad and my dad taught an adult Sunday school class together for many years. I always enjoyed visiting with Ed and Elaine, although because of our age difference as I was growing up, I always called them Mr. and Mrs. Hutchinson. They were faithful members of UUMC. Your dad had occasion to visit Madison, WI one year and looked us up. I'm still living in Madison and don't get back to see my dad's old friends in MD, except for occasions of my parents' burials. Those people I knew from the church have mostly moved to the Asbury Retirement Community in Gaithersburg or have since died. But I have fond memories of so many wonderful members of UUMC in the 50's, 60's and 70's! Among those good people were your parents! In case you are wondering how I heard of Elaine's recent death, I received an email from Donna Hoyert who is still at the church. And I try to touch base from time to time by phone with Mary Norman who was the organist at our wedding there 41 years ago and is still the organist for the church!

Dear Kenny and Bruce and Family,
I am saddened to hear of the passing of your wonderful mother, Elaine. She and your dad were such wonderful neighbors of our parents for many many years. She was lovely and kind and cheerful and so full of energy, and always available to chat with my parents, and us whenever we were visiting in College Park Woods. We have many photos in our family albums to remember her and your dad.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. And please do remember that your parents made a difference in the world, and touched many lives. I hope you get some comfort from that.
with hugs,
amahl shakhashiri drake

Dear Bruce and Kenny,
We are very sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom. She and the Judge were such dear friends of our parents (Zekin and Adma Shakhashiri) and such special neighbors. All of us remember your whole family very fondly and feel enriched to have known each of you. I suspect our parents are enjoying being neighbors again and are, perhaps, still raising the flag on patriotic days in some "Woods". May you and your families be consoled by Elaine's and Edwin's life legacies of being good, gentle, genuine, kind, and loving people. We miss them. May they both rest in peace.
With warm embraces and much love,
Bassam, Amahl, and Maha Shakhashiri
